Wood Schools to continue employee vaccinations Friday

PARKERSBURG - Wood County Schools will hold a second COVID-19 vaccination clinic Friday, continuing to focus on older full-time employees.

The clinic will be held Friday morning at Parkersburg High School. Nurses will dispense about 500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Employees will be contacted prior to the clinic with a time and place to receive their vaccination.

“It will be very similar to last time,” said Julie Bertram, director of health services for Wood County Schools. “We’ll have multiple locations (at PHS). We’ve pulled nurses off the registration desks to have more people able to administer the vaccine.”

Last week the county provided more than 400 vaccinations for full-time employees ages 50 and up. The district is targeting older employees with the first shipments of vaccine because it is a more vulnerable population for COVID-19.

This week some employees ages 40 and older also will be vaccinated, Bertram said.

In these first few rounds of vaccine distribution, officials also will look at vaccinating employees who have direct contact with students, including long-term substitutes and some service personnel, she said.

The vaccine requires two doses for maximum protection, with a second dose being administered about three to four weeks after the first.
