Criss Elementary: Thank all of you for assisting your children to attend our live classes today. As with anything new, we are going to have some glitches that we are working to fix. If your child had any problems and could not attend the live meetings today, please call (304)420-9522 between 12:30 and 2:30 so that we may assist you and your child can attend tomorrow.
Due to being orange on the State map, it is required that instruction this week will be fully remote. Students will remain at home and teachers will teach live utilizing TEAMS on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Your child's 1st live TEAM meeting will be tomorrow from 9 AM to 10 AM with their homeroom teacher. Then, they will be provided a break and their 2nd live TEAM meeting will be from 10:30 to 11:30 with the other grade level teacher, except for Kindergarten. For example, at 9AM, Mrs. Williams will have Reading with her homeroom class while Mrs. Lucas will have Math with her homeroom class. Then, at 10:30, Mrs. Williams will have Reading with Mrs. Lucas's class and Mrs. Lucas will have Math class with Mrs. Williams's class. If your child goes to daycare, please check with them, many are assisting with remote instruction. Additionally, lessons for your child and communication with teachers will be done on Schoology.
Criss Elementary: Beginning the week of Nov. 9, students will be returning to brick and mortar 4 days a week - Monday through Thursday - and will have an at home learning day on Fridays utilizing Schoology. We are very glad our students are coming back more days a week, however, the guidelines set forth by the Health Department and CDC have not changed. We are going to need your help so that we can make this transition to full capacity is as smooth as possible. 1. Morning arrival -We will open our doors at 7:30. Students will go straight to their classroom. If you arrive before 7:30, please have your students remain in the car with you until the doors open. We have limited space out front to be able to social distance. Also, for your child's safety, you MUST pull to the curb to let your child out of the car in the mornings. Please do not stop in the middle of the road and let your student out to cross in front of parked cars. This is very dangerous for your child. 2. Masks - Due to health department guidelines, when we return to in person for 4 days a week, your child will wear a mask all day except when they are eating. Students will eat their lunches in their room to maintain the core groups. Please be extra vigilant that your child comes to school with a washed and sanitized mask each day. 3. Be prompt at picking your child up after school. Teachers have other commitments after school so all students must be picked up by 3:00.

Criss Elementary: Reminder - Picture Day is Monday Oct. 5 (A to K) and Tuesday Oct. 6 (L - Z)

Criss Elementary: We just wanted to let you know that these first few days our teachers are getting to know your children and teaching them how to use Schoology. We know there have been some glitches and bumps in the road with this new learning platform. Please be patient as we work out all the bugs. As the students become more familiar with Schoology, they will have more assignments. Many issues we have encountered is that the correct web link isn't being used to log in. Please be sure to use https://wcswv.schoology.com or go to the Wood County Schools' web page, click menu, and then the icon that says Schoology. (There is an app installed on the iPads, but the web link is much more user friendly.) If you need any help with Schoology related questions, please call the school's help desk between 3:30 - 5:50.

Mrs. Carpenter and Mrs. Williams will be available at the Schoology help desk Monday- Thursday 3:30-5:30 by calling the office.

We are so excited! Tomorrow the day finally arrives that half our students(last names L-Z) will be returning to school and the other half (last names A-K) arrive Wednesday. Please remember that students must be wearing a mask as they enter the school building and in common areas. In addition they will need their iPad charged and ready to go (you can keep the charger at home), a note of how they are getting home the first day of school and the rest of the year. If you have any questions, please call our office. See you in the morning!
This is a reminder that the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 8th for students with last names beginning with L-Z. On Wednesday, September 9th, students with last names A-K will report to school. Due to Monday being Labor Day, students with last names A-K will report Friday, September 11th as well. Please visit the Wood County Schools website, and then click “2020-2021 Re-entry Summarization” for more details. Our re-entry schedule has not changed since being published. Students will attend school on a Blended-Model of instruction for 3 weeks, which is our Yellow Schedule, or until proper procedures, protocols, and new standards have been taught and implemented.
Also, please do not confuse yourself with the WVDE color-coded map. The map is used as one of many tools to drive local decisions for our school system. As mentioned in previous communications, we will closely monitor the data each day to make well-informed and deliberate decisions, while keeping safety as the top priority for our students and employees.
Over the last six months, we have worked diligently and methodically to create a well-rounded plan for re-entry. I’m sure we have not thought about every issue that may arise - please be patient as we work through making adjustments, changing protocols or procedures, and seeking feedback from our stakeholders to make this school year a great success.
Although not a requirement, I am asking each student to bring their own mask and bottle of water on the first day of school. This will help expedite first day procedures and practices for our schools as they begin teaching expected behaviors for the year. Students will receive a Wood County mask on the first day and will be expected to possess and use it on a continual basis as we navigate through a new normal for our school system.
We are so excited to see your children in our schools once again. We have greatly missed their presence the last six months. As always, make sure to Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. To view our first WCS Newsletter, please click https://tinyurl.com/yxbaddej
Have a safe and wonderful Holiday weekend.
Criss Elementary Dismissal Procedures 2020. With the addition of our new parking lot, we are now able to add an additional dismissal area. This year, for our parents' convenience, all students will dismiss at 2:50 and siblings will be released at the dismissal area of the oldest child in the family. For example, if you have a Kindergarten student, a 2nd grade student and a 4th grade student, you will pick up all of your children the doors that exit the school to our new parking lot. From 2:30 to 3:15, the new parking lot is for 3rd and 4th dismissal ONLY. Please do not park in the new parking lot during these times if you are picking up at a different location.
Mrs. Huff’s class - Please park on 23rd street and walk over hill or in the parking lot nearest the playground and pick up at her back door.
Mrs. Carpenter’s class - Please Park on 23rd St., Harrison Ave., or along the street by our playground and pick up at Mrs. Carpenter’s door.
First Grade – Please pull up and park in front of the school nearest the 1st set of double doors where your child will be dismissed.
Second and Fifth Grade -Please pull to the curb in front of the school nearest the front main doors or in the rear lot of Kroger.
Third and Fourth Grade – The parking spaces in the new parking lot closest the school will be “pick up” parking. Your child may come straight to your car from the exit door. If you are parked across the parking lot on the other side, you will need to walk across to the grass to pick up your child or wait until a “pick up” space becomes available and pull into it. Students exiting out the 3rd and 4th grade dismissal door will not be allowed to cross the parking lot on their own.
At any dismissal location, if there are no spots available to pull to the curb, you will need to continue down our street until a space becomes available. At no time are you allowed to park and exit your car in the middle of the one-way street.
We ask that you are patient while we work on our new dismissal procedures. We are hoping everything goes perfect on day one, but if not, we will work diligently to smooth out any hiccups.
Criss Elementary: Friendly reminder that Pre -K students begin on Sept. 14th or 15th.
Reminder - Ipad rollout begins Monday, August 31 at 9:00 a.m. For more information, please visit the "News" section on our website or click the following link. https://tinyurl.com/y6y43bj4
