Dear Wood County Schools’ families: Thank you for your courage, patience, and understanding this week as our school personnel and law enforcement agencies worked together to keep our schools safe. We are fortunate for the relationship between our school system and law enforcement. Good evening! We want to remind you about our back-to-school open house tomorrow, Monday, August 19th. Our elementary open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and our middle, high, WCTC and Caperton will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Students' first day back to school will be Wednesday, August 21st. We're excited to see you and kick off a fantastic year!

Good evening Braves! This is Kanawha Elementary Principal Matt Null with a couple important announcements. Tomorrow, 5/3/24, is School Lunch Hero Day! We are encouraging our Braves to wear a superhero shirt or a shirt that represents a personal hero to them to honor our SUPERHERO Cafeteria Staff. We will be facilitating the WV General Summative Assessment next Tuesday through Thursday in grades 3, 4, and 5. Please have our Braves to school on time and help us keep them on campus through 2 pm. All students must have a signed permission slip to attend. Students will be picked up from their regular pickup areas at 4pm. We are joining the West Virginia Department of Education in supporting our Military Kids! Monday, April 15th, is Military Monday! Wear clothing supporting your favorite military branch. Tuesday, April 16th, is Crazy Camo Day! Wear your favorite camo. Wednesday, April 17th, is Red, White, and Blue Day! Wear red, white, and blue to support our military families. Thursday, April 18th, is RED Day! Wear red to remember everyone deployed. Friday, April 19th, is Purple Up Day! Wear purple in honor of military kids! Team Altruismo is sponsoring a "Black Out" to celebrate and educate about the Solar Eclipse tomorrow, April 8th. This event will be a Brave House Competition! Whatever house has the most students dress in black shirts (not black ON the shirt, IN a black shirt) will win this Brave House Competition. Additionally, we have crafts and activities planned throughout the day with the focus on educating about UV rays. We look forward to seeing our Braves at school tomorrow!
