This summer we are able to provide a week long Summer Camp at Kanawha for our students entering grades 1-5. Students will get to complete activities that introduce our new theme for next school year "Under the Sea." Transportation is provided as well as breakfast and lunch. Students will attend 8:00-11:30. Grades 3-5 your students will be bringing home their access code either today or tomorrow for you to be able to access their GSA scores. Some students scores are "hand" scored and take a little longer for scores to come back. If you long in and their is none there keep checking. So far you should be able to see their ELA scores. We will take the Math test next week. If you have questions, please contact the school.
Tomorrow we kickoff Staff Appreciation Week. Help us show our staff how appreciated they are by sending in some of their favorites. We also kick off end of year testing for GSA and end of the year benchmarks. This is an exciting time of year because students and staff get to see the result of their hard work.
Tomorrow evening Kanawha Staff and LSIC Members will be joining other North End Schools to showcase all the exciting things we have done this school year. Please feel free to stop by our table. We will be at PHS Field House from 6:00-7:30. It's a great day to be a BRAVE!
Spring Concert for K-2 and Choir this evening at WVUP Multi-purpose Room. Students need to report at 5:45. Show starts at 6:00. K-2 needs to wear house shirts/colors. Choir needs to wear Music Festival Shirt.

Spring pictures will either come home today or Monday. We are aware that the company put the wrong principal name on them and have requested reprints. Track try outs for Grades 3-5 will be Monday and Tuesday. Permission forms went home today. Students must have a permission form to stay after school. Students do NOT need to come both days. They can attend tryouts on Monday OR Tuesday.
If you have not done so, please return Raffle Tickets and $ for the PTO Basket Fundraiser. Winners will be drawn during the PTO Meeting on March 24. Tomorrow is also House Spirit Competition. Be sure to wear your PJs to count as a point for your house and Wood County Society's county wide fundraiser. Wear a hat and donate $1 to support the Wood County Society.
PTO Sponsored Skate Party is still ON this evening 6-7:30. Free admission and skates for Kanawha students, everyone else is $1. Wear your green outfits and celebrated Green Out day in fashion. We will have light refreshments donated by Qdoba. PTO will be selling raffle tickets at the rink for our basket fundraiser and be pulling a winning ticket for the Qdoba donated basket this evening at the rink.

Due to snowy and icy conditions impacting a significant portion of the southern part of Wood County, Wood County Schools will now be closed today, Tuesday, March 17, 2026. While some areas of the county may not be experiencing the same conditions, roadways in other areas remain hazardous. Because our buses and families travel across many different communities and road conditions, this decision was made to prioritize the safety of all students and staff throughout the entire county. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure everyone can travel safely.

Important Update Regarding the End of the School Year: We are pleased to share that the West Virginia Department of Education has granted Wood County Schools a waiver for three instructional days. As a result of this approval, the last day of school for students will remain Tuesday, June 2, 2026 — no changes have been made to the previously published school calendar. No further action is needed on your part. Please make note of this date as you plan for summer childcare, activities, and travel. Students celebrated their IReady Growth with a dance themed The More You Grow The More You Glow today! Their parent reports and certificates for anyone who met their mid-year goal of 50% of their typical growth should have come home today. If not, it will get sent home on Monday. Please take a look at these reports and review them with your student. You want to see their graph getting higher each time they take it. We will take it again in May.
