Spring pictures will either come home today or Monday. We are aware that the company put the wrong principal name on them and have requested reprints. Track try outs for Grades 3-5 will be Monday and Tuesday. Permission forms went home today. Students must have a permission form to stay after school. Students do NOT need to come both days. They can attend tryouts on Monday OR Tuesday.
If you have not done so, please return Raffle Tickets and $ for the PTO Basket Fundraiser. Winners will be drawn during the PTO Meeting on March 24. Tomorrow is also House Spirit Competition. Be sure to wear your PJs to count as a point for your house and Wood County Society's county wide fundraiser. Wear a hat and donate $1 to support the Wood County Society.
PTO Sponsored Skate Party is still ON this evening 6-7:30. Free admission and skates for Kanawha students, everyone else is $1. Wear your green outfits and celebrated Green Out day in fashion. We will have light refreshments donated by Qdoba. PTO will be selling raffle tickets at the rink for our basket fundraiser and be pulling a winning ticket for the Qdoba donated basket this evening at the rink.

Due to snowy and icy conditions impacting a significant portion of the southern part of Wood County, Wood County Schools will now be closed today, Tuesday, March 17, 2026. While some areas of the county may not be experiencing the same conditions, roadways in other areas remain hazardous. Because our buses and families travel across many different communities and road conditions, this decision was made to prioritize the safety of all students and staff throughout the entire county. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure everyone can travel safely.

Important Update Regarding the End of the School Year: We are pleased to share that the West Virginia Department of Education has granted Wood County Schools a waiver for three instructional days. As a result of this approval, the last day of school for students will remain Tuesday, June 2, 2026 — no changes have been made to the previously published school calendar. No further action is needed on your part. Please make note of this date as you plan for summer childcare, activities, and travel. Students celebrated their IReady Growth with a dance themed The More You Grow The More You Glow today! Their parent reports and certificates for anyone who met their mid-year goal of 50% of their typical growth should have come home today. If not, it will get sent home on Monday. Please take a look at these reports and review them with your student. You want to see their graph getting higher each time they take it. We will take it again in May. Kanawha Elementary PTO is kicking off their big fundraiser for the year with a wreath and basket raffle. Tickets will be on sale from February 17 through March 18. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6! Please have those purchasing the tickets fill out their ticket and leave the ticket sheet whole. Send whole sheets to the school, we will make a copy and send you back the copy as your receipt. All tickets and money are due on March 18. More information will be coming home with your students today.

Wood County Schools will be closed today, Friday, February 6, 2026, due to expected snowfall and already icy roadway conditions.
