Lubeck Friends and Families, Today was the last official day staff is in our building prior to students returning. I am so very proud of the work our staff has done to prepare for the managerial, logistical, and educational shifts that are required as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During a staff meeting this morning, I reminded our staff that while they may be experiencing frustration and exhaustion, they need to celebrate the exceptional work they have done to prepare for re-entry. In a typical school year, there are more moving parts than most realize. As an administrator, I begin taking notes, visualizing, and preparing for the next year as soon as one year starts. We can always get better or be more efficient. In most cases, we have a general template and previous experiences to draw from. A jumping off point, if you will. In a year when we are facing a pandemic, schools are striving for that same seamless opening, but while enforcing health & safety guidelines that we did not know existed prior to March 13, 2020. With the support of Wood County Schools, every individual school is charting their own course this year. Our courses have similarities as we all follow the same CDC and DHHR guidelines, but they are vastly different as each facility, needs, and community are unique. Below the surface schools are solving puzzles and riddles like never before. \ As our Lubeck Staff left here today, I can confidently say that we are ready for our students. Our kids are going to feel welcome, safe, and loved. That does not mean that we will be perfect. We are humans working with small humans and that will naturally result in speed bumps along the way. As we encounter those speed bumps, or even road blocks, we are prepared to reflect, assess, and shift our course. There is one component that we cannot neglect. We cannot do this without your support. I have lived in Lubeck my entire life. As far as I am concerned, there is no better place to live and raise a family. Lubeck/Belleville and the surrounding communities have gone through some pretty tough things through the years. We have also emerged on the other side; better and and stronger. That only was possible because we came together as a community. We didn’t even think about it; we just did it. COVID-19 has not left a path of destruction like the 2010 tornado or damaged homes and wiping out power for weeks like the 2012 derecho, but COVID-19 has left its mark on everyone in some way. Neighbor helping neighbor, compassion, and patience- that is what got us through. If you can, offer any and all school personnel a few words of encouragement. Those words are more powerful than you know. We love our kids and we love our school. It feels good to be back and I we are going to take care of your most cherished gift just as we would our own. ! We've got this! Sincerely, Mrs. Amber Hardman (Lubeck Class of ’91) PS. We are smiling behind the masks!

*Countdown to Re-Entry* Don't forget your iPad! Students in grades K-5 will need to take their iPad to and from school each day. Please make every effort for it to be charged when it returns to school. We have sent most of our iPad chargers home with students, so the number in the building is limited at this time.

*Countdown to Re-Entry* iPADs If your child does not have an iPad, they will come home from school on their first day with a paper called an AUP (Acceptable Use Agreement). Sign and return that paper to the school the following day that your child attends. If you already have the AUP, sign and send it on their first day. The teacher will send the iPad home with them once they have the AUP.

Countdown to the First Day INFO TO KNOW WATER BOTTLES Children are welcome and encouraged to bring a water bottle to school with them. It doesn't need to be fancy, simply a bottle with their name written on it. Water fountains are not open at this time, so we will help keep kids hydrated in the classrooms with individual bottles. Bottles will either be disposed of or returned home with the child at the end of the day.

Good evening, Each Sunday evening, from this day forward, I will provide all stakeholders an update from the WVDHHR and WVDE Covid-19 metrics data for Wood County. The metics data will be used to govern activities and other requirements in our school system for the upcoming week. This week, Wood County has a 2.74 average seven day trend, which includes 16 probable and confirmed positive cases the last seven days. We will continue to analyze the data of the metrics, and make necessary adjustments on protocols and procedures in our schools based on current trends. For the upcoming week of August 31, Wood County is “Green” on the metrics; therefore, all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are allowed to participate. However, three counties in WV - Kanawha, Monroe, and Logan are orange or red in the metrics and will not be allowed to participate in any activities this week. As you can see, this is a community driven metrics, which has serious implications for our school system. Please do your part and encourage others on the 3 W’s to help our students return in-person to our schools - Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. Once again, please download our mobile app on our website and continually check the “News” feed to stay up to date on what is happening in our schools. Keep up the great work. Have a great evening.

It was a great first week back for the Lubeck staff! Over the next week we will be sharing specific details for what re-entry at LES will look like. There will be some adjustments to our daily routines. However, we strive for procedures to be as “normal” as possible while keeping student safety as a priority. With patience, flexibility, and teamwork, re-entry will be a success at Lubeck Elementary. We are on this journey together!

Important Information-VIRTUAL SCHOOL & BRICK AND MORTAR SCHOOL Virtual Schools Registration is now CLOSED. If you would like to get on the waiting list, please contact Shelia Belcher at the Wood County Board of Education. Please remember that if you choose to do virtual school, you need a reliable internet connection. Virtual School students will not becoming to the building at all. Virtual School is very rigorous and requires high student motivation and parent involvement. We would love to answer any questions you may have about sending your child to Lubeck or keeping them at home to do virtual school. Please remember virtual school is a computer based program on the grade level of the student. There will not be a “live” teacher teaching your child. Your child will be expected to spend several hours a day working on assignments. Teachers will be available to answer questions in the evenings. Students not doing virtual school, will be coming to school two days per week and will be given assignments to do at home on the days they are not here at Lubeck. If you have decided that virtual school is not for your Lubeck student, please e-mail amber.hardman@k12.wv.us or call the school to be placed in a face-to-face classroom. We are here to help!

Good morning, last evening the Wood County BOE approved the revised 2020-2021 school calendar. The calendar can be found on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com then click "menu" then "COVID -19". Also, the WCBOE approved our draft re-entry to school plan, which is subject to change as new guidelines are being established each day. The draft re-entry plan can be found on our website in the "News" feed. Please take time to review the re-entry plan and provide feedback so changes can be considered. As of tonight, Wood County Schools will begin school September 8 in the "yellow" phase and will continue in "yellow" for the first three (3) weeks. On September 21/22, after analyzing community data related to COVID-19, we will make an informed decision to hopefully go "green" (5 days) beginning Monday, September 28. Please continue to follow all safety protocols to help our school system return to normal as quickly as possible. Stay safe and healthy. Have a great day.

Good evening, To better prepare for the upcoming fall semester, Wood County Schools is seeking an accurate number of students who would like to participate in a full-time virtual school program.  Students would be a Wood County student choosing to take their classes online in a rigorous, web-based learning environment.  The virtual school teachers are West Virginia teachers teaching West Virginia content standards.  Students will still be able to participate in extracurricular (sports, clubs) and co-curricular activities (Band, ROTC) as would any other student.  This is not an easier pathway, but a different pathway to utilize during these uncertain times.  The program is for students in grades K -12 interested in a virtual school learning environment.  If interested in pursuing the virtual school option for your child, please visit our webpage woodcountyschoolswv.com, click “Menu”, “Parents and Students”, “Virtual School”. You can also email Jason Potts at jason.potts@k12.wv.us for more information. Please stay safe and healthy - Have a wonderful evening.
