October 2 is National Custodian Appreciation Day. The role of a school custodian is more critical than ever. Without Mr. Bill, Mr. John, and Mr. Dave, we would not be able to keep our school as clean and sanitized as is necessary during this re-entry. We appreciate all they do for the students and staff of Lubeck Elementary School! šŸ’™šŸ¾

LUBECK PICTURE DAY UPDATE This is our first year using Jostens for our photos, so we are learning their processes. Student photos will be available online within 5 days of when the photos were taken. You will be able to view and choose the photos you want to buy prior to purchasing. That is a wonderful perk! You will be asked for event code, which is FE24420, and a student ID number. The ID number is your student's 9-digit number. Many begin with 9600. This number is also found in student Schoology passwords.

Beginning Monday, October 5, 2020, the tardy bell at Lubeck Elementary will ring at 8:10am, which is what it was in previous years. Students arriving after 8:10am are considered tardy. This small adjustment allows our students to have a smoother transition into the instructional day. Students being dropped off after 8:10am are to enter through the Lubeck Road entrance and must be signed in by a parent or guardian. Thank you!

While our students are permitted on the blacktop and field during designated times of the day, playground equipment remains closed at all times. Lubeck students have started taking the iReady Math & Reading Diagnostic. These are comprehensive assessments that give us important information about student academic strengths and weaknesses. Once students complete the diagnostic assessment, iReady will provide students with instructional lessons specific to what they need. Lessons are not available until the diagnostic has been completed and are wonderful activities for off-campus learning days. Another important piece of iReady is goal setting. Based on the results, each student will have a growth goal for reading and for math. We will take the diagnostic assessments two more times during the year to monitor progress. Student growth goals are not only important to us, but we want them to be important to you and your student. We believe that every child can grow and we want to celebrate achievements along the way!

Lubeck Families, As we get settled into the new year, please make sure to keep the school up to date on custody concerns or parenting plans that impact who can pick up students or access information. It is important to recognize that without an order signed by a judge, both parents listed in the birth certificate are equally entitled to students records and access to the student. This includes grades, attendance, and discipline records. If the school does not have orders, signed by a judge, we cannot restrict a parent from picking up a child. If you are unsure of the last time you provided updated information and you know it has changed through the years, this is a great time to send in the most up to date documentation that you have. Thank you!

Schoology Update: Teachers have been getting to know your students the last few days. They will slowly be introducing them how to use Schoology over the next few weeks and begin to put more and more assignments on the platform. When your student logs into Schoology, if they have any assignments with due dates these will show up on the right side of the screen or on their calendar. You can also find assignments by clicking on the Courses at the top and choosing each of the individual courses listed. These courses are auto populated based upon their official schedule. There may be courses that remain empty the entire time if the teacher chooses to put the assignments under another tab. If you need help with Schoology related questions, we have a help desk stationed at the school from 3:30-5:30. Many of the issues we have had is that the correct web link isnā€™t being used to login be sure to use https://wcswv.schoology.com or go to Wood County Schools Web page, Click on Menu, and then the icon that says Schoology. The app is installed on the iPads, but the web link is much more user friendly.

Thank you for a smooth first day of school yesterday and today. It was great to see students back in the building. We are very pleased by the way students handled re-entry and have quickly adapted to the new routines that are in place. This message is also to serve as a reminder about Buddy Bags, which are available for students to take home at the end of on-campus learning days. If you wish to receive meals for off-campus learning days, you will need to pre-order Buddy Bags each week, even if you have informed the teacher in the past. The link to register for the week of September 14 is now open and can be found on the Wood County Schools web page by choosing the MENU tab at the top of the page, followed by WELLNESS, then CHILD NUTRITION. Pre-order closes on Monday, September 14th at 9 a.m.

We had a great 1st day at Lubeck Elementary! Our students spent much of the day learning new routines any procedures. Some classes were able to log into Schoology and begin learning how to use the platform for off campus learning. Donā€™t worry! We will be spending a few weeks learning to navigate Schoology and implement our daily schedule. One step at a time.....šŸ˜Š

This message is for parents or guardians of Kindergarten through 2nd grade students who pick up with students after school. Due to COVID-19, there has been a change in our afternoon pick-up routine for Kindergarten-2nd grade students. Students will be dismissing from door 8, which is the door closest to the PK playground on Lubeck Road. If you are picking up your K-2 student, enter Lubeck Road near Pahlhurst Plaza. There will be a sign identifying where the line begins. Cars will not be permitted to enter the school lot until buses have departed. Be courteous to our neighbors and do not block their driveways. It is of no benefit to arrive early as no children will be dismissed before buses. As you pull through the line, staff will be able to load multiple cars at once. This process will be faster and smoother as we learn to recognize vehicles. Do not pass other cars that are loading children. If you have a student in K-2 and 3-5, you will be able to get both children at door 8. Parents or guardians are not permitted to park and walk to the building to pick up students at this time. Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we work toward a safe and smooth re-entry! PM Timeline: 3:00-3:05- Students Begin Loading Buses 3:13- Buses Depart 3:15- Pick-Up Begins

On Wednesday, September 9th, students with last names A-K will report to school. Due to Monday being Labor Day, students with last names A-K will report Friday, September 11th as well. Please visit the Wood County Schools website, and then click ā€œ2020-2021 Re-entry Summarizationā€ for more details. Our re-entry schedule has not changed since being published. Students will attend school on a Blended-Model of instruction for 3 weeks, which is our Yellow Schedule, or until proper procedures, protocols, and new standards have been taught and implemented. Also, please do not confuse yourself with the WVDE color-coded map. The map is used as one of many tools to drive local decisions for our school system. As mentioned in previous communications, we will closely monitor the data each day to make well-informed and deliberate decisions, while keeping safety as the top priority for our students and employees. Over the last six months, we have worked diligently and methodically to create a well-rounded plan for re-entry. Iā€™m sure we have not thought about every issue that may arise - please be patient as we work through making adjustments, changing protocols or procedures, and seeking feedback from our stakeholders to make this school year a great success. Although not a requirement, I am asking each student to bring their own mask and bottle of water on the first day of school. This will help expedite first day procedures and practices for our schools as they begin teaching expected behaviors for the year. Students will receive a Wood County mask on the first day and will be expected to possess and use it on a continual basis as we navigate through a new normal for our school system. We are so excited to see your children in our schools once again. We have greatly missed their presence the last six months. As always, make sure to Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. To view our first WCS Newsletter, please click https://tinyurl.com/yxbaddej Have a safe and wonderful Holiday weekend.
