PARKERSBURG, WV — Wood County Schools recently celebrated a remarkable wave of musical achievement, as students from multiple middle and high schools across the district were honored for their outstanding performances in choral and vocal competitions at the regional and state levels.
The Wood County Board of Education recognized the accomplished young musicians during a recent board meeting.
Students from Parkersburg South High School earned recognition as members of the Southern Region ACDA Honor Choir, a prestigious ensemble that selects top choral singers from across the region. Additionally, students from Parkersburg South joined peers from Parkersburg High School as members of both the WV ACDA All State High School Chamber Choir and the WVMEA All State Choir — two of the most competitive vocal honors available to West Virginia high school students.
At the middle school level, students from Blennerhassett, Edison, Hamilton, Jackson, and Williamstown Middle Schools were recognized as members of the Wood County Honor Choir, while select standout singers from Edison Middle School, Hamilton Middle School, Parkersburg High School, and Parkersburg South High School advanced further, earning spots in the WV ACDA All State Middle School Honor Choir and the WVMEA All State Choir.
Parkersburg High School earned additional distinction with its Chamber Choir being recognized as a WVMEA Honor Ensemble — a testament to the program's collective excellence. PHS students were also celebrated for earning Superior Ratings at the WVMEA Solo & Ensemble competition, with select performers invited to the prestigious WVMEA State Solo & Ensemble Honor Recital. Parkersburg South High School students likewise received recognition for Superior Ratings and for their own representation at the WVMEA State Solo and Ensemble Recital.
The breadth of recognition — spanning honor choirs, all-state ensembles, chamber choir honors, and solo & ensemble accolades — reflects the depth of musical talent thriving across Wood County Schools and underscores the dedication of students and their directors alike.
