GREENMONT, WV — Students and staff at Greenmont Elementary School have plenty to celebrate following an outstanding performance on West Virginia's General Summative Assessment (GSA). The school's students achieved results placing them among the top 10 percent statewide in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science, highlighting the dedication, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence demonstrated throughout the school year.
The achievement is particularly impressive as Greenmont students excelled across all three tested subject areas, reflecting the school's commitment to providing a strong educational foundation and helping every student reach their full potential.
To recognize this remarkable accomplishment, Greenmont Elementary hosted a special celebration honoring the students, teachers, and staff whose efforts contributed to the school's success.
Several special guests joined the festivities, including Vienna Mayor Chad Emrick, Wood County Schools Assistant Superintendent Jeff Kisner, and Wood County Board of Education member Haley Meredith. Also attending were longtime supporters of Wood County Schools Bob Fehrenbacher, Vernon Criss and his wife, Virginia Criss, along with the Criss's daughter, Brandi Keaton.
Bob Fehrenbacher and Vernon Criss helped make the celebration even more memorable by providing coffee from Sycamore Sweets Cafe and Bakery for Greenmont's teachers and small gifts for students. Their generosity served as a meaningful expression of appreciation for the hard work taking place in Greenmont's classrooms.
Adding to the excitement was a special appearance by Barney, Parkersburg High School's therapy dog, who joined students and staff in celebrating their achievements.
The Greenmont Elementary PTA also played an important role in making the occasion special, providing cake and festive decorations. The cake was supplied by Sam's Club, while Whimsical Balloons provided decorations that helped create a cheerful atmosphere worthy of the school's accomplishment.
While the celebration was filled with special guests, treats, and excitement, the true reason for the occasion was the remarkable academic success of Greenmont's students.
