Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff I want to give you a couple pieces of information concerning some things going on here at Jackson. First, I know that the process of learning Schoology continues and we are all working together to get through this process. I encourage everyone to use the Parent Access setup papers that were sent home last Thursday and this Monday to set up your parent access. This will allow you to get reports on various information concerning your students assignments and things they have turned in. I also want to mention that October 5 will be mid-term for the first nine weeks of school. Again, you can use your parent access to view student completed work and current grades in courses. I also want to mention that our Parent/Teacher group will be meeting for the first time, Thursday, October 1, at 3:30 pm. They will be meeting on the front of the campus and we encourage you to bring your own chair. Feel free to come and join in the discussion. I also would like to remind you one of the best things you can do is join the PTA membership with your $5 donation! I hope you all have a great evening and Go Generals!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff This is Mr. Kisner with a brief message. First let me say everyone is doing a great job, I know this has not been an easy start and we are all still learning Schoology and what to expect on remote learning days. Please try and be patient with us as we continue to learn and we grow familiar with lessons and workload for students. Today, students should have brought home a paper with parent access codes on the top, as well as instructions on how to get signed up for your parent Schoology account. On the back of this paper, there are also instructions on how to add additional students to your account. On Monday, the rest of the students will receive these access codes and information. If you need help, feel free to call the school from 3:30 – 5:30 Monday through Thursday with any Schoology questions for our Schoology Help Desk. Thank you and have a great weekend! Go Generals!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff! This is Mr. Kisner with a brief announcement. First let me say that everyone has been doing a fabulous job with the new practices and procedures. I encourage you to continue to wash your hands, wear your mask, and remember to watch your distance from people in every situation. I do want to mention that on days students are not on campus, they need to be checking their Schoology accounts for that day's assignments from their teachers. These assignments will be posted daily for students when they are at home on remote learning days and are responsible for the work. If you have questions about items in Schoology, please message your teacher through the Schoology site for the quickest response. Again, thank you for your time and patience. Everyone have a great day, and as always...Go Generals!

2019-2020 yearbooks are in! 🎉 A few things, and as with everything, please be patient and show grace as we distribute and sell books: • Current seventh and eighth graders (last year’s sixth and seventh graders) who ordered books will receive them during IE Wednesday or Thursday. • We have extras, and they may be purchased for $45, cash only, beginning this Wednesday, Sept. 16. Books are available on a first come, first served basis; we won’t order more. Mrs. Hedgepath will sell from the main office, and I will sell from room 31. I only will sell from 7:45 to 8 a.m., during IE 4, or immediately after school. If a student has me for class, he or she can bring money to class to eliminate extra trips. • Last year’s eighth graders (current freshmen) and current virtual students will have two times to pick up and/or purchase books. I will have a table set up in front of the cafeteria this Friday, Sept. 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and again next Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 2 p.m. If a sibling currently attends JMS and is to pick up instead, please ask the current student to inform his or her IE teacher, who will then contact me. Please remember books are now $45, CASH ONLY, and when they are gone, they are gone. If you have questions, please email jflinville@k12.wv.us ☺️ Thank you! I believe the book was well worth the wait! 💚💚

Daily schedule
Good afternoon Jackson parents, students, and staff, Tomorrow begins the 2020-2021 school year! We are starting in with the blended model this week and students with last names L-Z will come tomorrow and Thursday, and students with last names A-K will come Wednesday and Friday of this week! I want to remind everyone also that if you wish to have a Buddy Bag you must pre-order those by 9am tomorrow morning. Use the link that I provided yesterday on our website under the Livefeed. I want to also mention a couple other items today. First, let’s talk a little about 6th grade orientation. I know many have been anxious about the beginning of school and everyone has done a great job preparing. It is finally here and it will be extremely easy! First, 6th graders will remain in the cafeteria in the morning and their 1st period teacher will come get them at 7:45. If you arrive later than 7:45, we will assist you to your 1st period. Once in 1st period the 6th grade will begin their orientation and have a revised scheduled for the first day. I will be posting this revised schedule under NEWS on our website today! All students will discuss procedures and expectations in each and every class this week. We will be going over many items and I encourage parents to look over our student handbook which is posted online for your convenience. We will all be learning “school” again just like it is a first year for each student, teacher, and administrator. However, I am very confident Jackson Middle School will be an example of this as Generals always lead!! Finally dismissal procedures. The dismissal bell will ring at 3:12, but like all other bells this year, students are dismissed only by staff, not the bell! All students need to exit the building in the following manner: 6th grade – exit the front doors and down the main stairs to the community building 7th grade – exit the breezeway doors and go to the sidewalk to the community building or pool/tennis courts 8th grade – exit by room 36 or the breezeway doors and go to the pool/tennis courts or down sidewalk to community building NO ONE SHOULD EXIT THROUGH DOOR 17 to the side parking lot! No one will be allowed to linger or wait in the hallways, students need to exit the building when dismissed. At 3:12, walkers will be dismissed first. After walkers have left the building, students being picked up will be dismissed. After all riders have cleared the halls, athletes going to practice and bus students will be dismissed. Bus students will be dismissed by bus to the cafeteria where they will wait for their bus at an assigned table! During dismissal all students must wear a face covering and keep it on until they have left the building and are off school grounds. I thank you all for your help and patience as we begin this school year! I look forward to seeing all our students this week! Have a great day! Go Generals!

This is a reminder that the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 8th for students with last names beginning with L-Z. On Wednesday, September 9th, students with last names A-K will report to school. Due to Monday being Labor Day, students with last names A-K will report Friday, September 11th as well. Please visit the Wood County Schools website, and then click “2020-2021 Re-entry Summarization” for more details. Our re-entry schedule has not changed since being published. Students will attend school on a Blended-Model of instruction for 3 weeks, which is our Yellow Schedule, or until proper procedures, protocols, and new standards have been taught and implemented. Also, please do not confuse yourself with the WVDE color-coded map. The map is used as one of many tools to drive local decisions for our school system. As mentioned in previous communications, we will closely monitor the data each day to make well-informed and deliberate decisions, while keeping safety as the top priority for our students and employees. Over the last six months, we have worked diligently and methodically to create a well-rounded plan for re-entry. I’m sure we have not thought about every issue that may arise - please be patient as we work through making adjustments, changing protocols or procedures, and seeking feedback from our stakeholders to make this school year a great success. Although not a requirement, I am asking each student to bring their own mask and bottle of water on the first day of school. This will help expedite first day procedures and practices for our schools as they begin teaching expected behaviors for the year. Students will receive a Wood County mask on the first day and will be expected to possess and use it on a continual basis as we navigate through a new normal for our school system. We are so excited to see your children in our schools once again. We have greatly missed their presence the last six months. As always, make sure to Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. To view our first WCS Newsletter, please click https://tinyurl.com/yxbaddej Have a safe and wonderful Holiday weekend.

Good afternoon Jackson parents, students, and staff; I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend. Friday evening, I informed you about dropping off and morning procedures. Today I want to mention a couple items for students on the first few days. First, make sure you have your iPad with you and have it charged! If you don’t have an IPad please print the AUP and have it signed by parent and student. You will not get an IPad until this is signed. Students can also bring some paper and pencils with them. Teachers will let students know what they will need on a daily basis from there, we hope to cut down on the use of paper. Students will go to lockers from 1st period when dismissed by their teacher. Again, most textbooks will be electronic and therefore the need to go to the locker will be reduced. If a student doesn’t know who their 1st period teacher is, please ask someone. If you don’t have a schedule you will be directed to a room to find out what your 1st period is. There will be NO lists in the hallway so we don’t have students standing around. Once in 1st period, teachers will go over policies and procedures for the school and their class. They will share announcements and provide valuable county policies. Each student will be offered a WCS mask. All students must have a face covering each and every school day. Also, please try and bring a water bottle as we cannot use water fountains at this time. There will be 4 lunches this year due to spacing limits. Students will have a designated lunch on their schedule. Students will eat in the cafeteria in the designated areas. Students must have a mask on until they sit down, anytime a student leaves their area they must put their face covering back on. Weather permitting, students will be allowed to eat outside in the bleacher area. They must maintain social distancing and put trash in the designated areas. I know many things are different this school year and some may seem to be inconvenient. However, we must continue to cooperate with the guidelines so that we may have in-person learning. I will provide one more announcement tomorrow! I hope you have a great day and GO GENERALS!

Good afternoon Jackson parents, students, and staff As we prepare for the opening of school, I would like to provide some information over the next few days. Let me thank everyone that came to get student IPads the last few days! This went very well and I appreciate our staff and students as we were able to get these devices to students. If you didn’t get an iPad, you can go to our website and print a copy of the AUP from the News section. If you bring it your first day of school we will try and get your iPad. If not, we will get it to you when we have a parent and student signature on the AUP. IPads need brought to school EVERYDAY! Another important item is 7th grade immunizations. If we don’t have a copy of your 7th graders immunizations, please make sure to contact our school nurse and get this taken care of. I know Nurse McMillian has been contacting parents to get these items taken care of in a timely manner. A student can not participate in school until these immunizations have been documented to the school. Lastly, let's talk about arrival at Jackson Middle School this year. Doors will not be unlocked until 7:30 am to the cafeteria. If you are dropping students off you can drop off at the Vienna Community building or drive down to 32nd Street to the end of the football field and come in the back of the parking lot. You can then drop off as you come down the hill by the cafeteria. ALL students will enter the building through the cafeteria doors. Students MUST have a face covering when they enter and keep on please. 6th grade will sit in the cafeteria. STUDENTS SHOULD SIT 1 TO A BENCH (8 TO A TABLE). 6th grade can pick up their breakfast in the cafeteria. 7th grade will sit in the BLEACHERS in gym. Students come in and need to sit on a seat WITHOUT A WHITE MARK ON IT. 8th grade will sit in the 7th grade hallway. Students red to sit 3 tiles apart. 7th and 8th grade can get breakfast in their areas. All students will eat in the classroom, NO outside food is permitted. Students will go to 1st period at 7:45 by grade level. Anyone coming in cafeteria after 7:45 will grab breakfast and go to 1st period. 1st period will begin at 8am! More will follow in the coming days...as always, GO GENERALS!

Good morning Jackson parents and students, I want to thank everyone that has come to pick up IPads, you have done a great job with social distancing and have made the process very smooth! If you have not picked up your IPad yet, we will be distributing to anyone that can get here today between the hours of 9am and 3pm. Please come to the side parking lot and then walk to the back of the building, we are set up in the courtyard area there. I also want to mention that there is a link on our website under the Live Feed that has a Google Slide presentation with teacher information. If you open the link you should get the slide presentation, click on PRESENT and then hopefully you can go to where you want and get to see our wonderful staff here at Jackson. I will be providing a few more items over the next few days for the start of school next Tuesday. We are excited to have students back and our staff is working diligently to get everything prepared for students. So be looking for those calls over the next few days, and I will always post on our website the announcements as well. Have a great day! Go Generals!

Pre-Order Buddy Bags on Hybrid Learning Days for the Week of September 8th. Wood County Schools will start school September 8 with a hybrid model that will have students in school two days a week. The plan is to send students home with a pre-bagged meal called a “Buddy Bag” to be eaten on the days that the students will be learning remotely. The “Buddy Bag” will contain one breakfast and one lunch. Parents/guardians or students age 13 and up can pre-order meals. Due to certain restrictions, parents will need to pre-order meals for students 12 and under. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or student to reserve the “Buddy Bag” for the week of September 8th. Pre-orders are due by 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8th for the week of September 8th meal pick-up. Pre-orders will start on Wednesday, September 2nd at 9 a.m. You will need to place an order separately for each student. On Thursday, September 10th students that attend school will be provided 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches to cover Friday and Monday remote learning. Good evening, Each Sunday evening, from this day forward, I will provide all stakeholders an update from the WVDHHR and WVDE Covid-19 metrics data for Wood County. The metics data will be used to govern activities and other requirements in our school system for the upcoming week. This week, Wood County has a 2.74 average seven day trend, which includes 16 probable and confirmed positive cases the last seven days. We will continue to analyze the data of the metrics, and make necessary adjustments on protocols and procedures in our schools based on current trends. For the upcoming week of August 31, Wood County is “Green” on the metrics; therefore, all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are allowed to participate. However, three counties in WV - Kanawha, Monroe, and Logan are orange or red in the metrics and will not be allowed to participate in any activities this week. As you can see, this is a community driven metrics, which has serious implications for our school system. Please do your part and encourage others on the 3 W’s to help our students return in-person to our schools - Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. Once again, please download our mobile app on our website and continually check the “News” feed to stay up to date on what is happening in our schools. Keep up the great work. Have a great evening.
