KINDERGARTEN-2nd GRADE DISMISSAL UPDATES EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 9, 2020 There are two changes that will occur starting Monday, November 9. 1. If you are picking up a K-2 AND 3-5 student, they will be dismissed together on Route 68 starting on November 9. (This is a change from door 8.) 2. Each K-2 family will get a card with their child’s name and grade on it. As you line up for dismissal, please have this card visible either by placing it somewhere on the dashboard/windows or holding it up so it can be read. This will allow us to have your student ready for you before you get up to door 8. The poles leading to door 8 will also be numbered. Please pull all the way up. Once your car comes to a complete stop, we can help your child into the vehicle. Teachers will be outside working to make this as safe and smooth as possible. Please refrain from getting out of your vehicle, as this slows down the process considerably. Teachers can assist your child with the car door, but do to liability, we are not permitted to help your child with any kind of seat belt buckle. If your child needs assistance, please pull up to the cone at the end of the pick-up ramp where you can safely help your child while still letting traffic flow. Thank you for your help and patience!

As you know Wood County students will begin attending school face to face on Monday, November 9. In preparation for all students attending, we have made minor changes to our K-2 pick-up procedures. There will be no changes to the pick-up for grades 3-5. Watch for information that will go home with K-2 students on Monday or Thursday of this week (there is no school on Tuesday for Election Day). Information will also be shared on Facebook, Lubeck School Live Feed, and text. The utilization of the Wood County Schools Bus is always a great option for afternoon transportation. Students who live within a few miles of the school often arrive at home by bus faster than if they are picked up at school. We have a wonderful group of drivers who take great care in transporting our students.

Lubeck Families, This is Mrs. Hardman, principal at Lubeck Elementary School. On Tuesday night the Wood County Board of Education approved Mr. Hosaflook's proposed plan for students to return to school 4 days a week (M-Th with Friday remote learning) starting November 9th for elementary students. Parents also have a choice of doing remote learning 5 days a week through Schoology. If you would like your child to participate in remote learning only and not face to face learning in the school building, please contact the school office or your child’s teacher as soon as possible. It is important that we know instructional preferences so that we may prepare for our students who are learning on campus and off campus. If you are currently enrolled in WV Virtual School, you may remain in that program. Thank you for your help with this.

This young man was recognized for outstanding citizenship during morning announcements today. After noticing a new student sitting alone on the sidelines during a game at recess, Landon stopped playing and approached the boy to invite him to join in. Being new to a school can be really tough. Thank you, Landon, for your act of kindness! 💙🐾 #nationalbullypreventionmonth

One of the best resources that you have on off-campus learning days is iReady. iReady is research based and designed to meet the needs of all learners. Each K-5 child has completed an iReady Diagnostic test in reading and math. This assessment is a comprehensive look at a student's strength sand weaknesses in all areas. Once students are finished with the diagnostic, there are lessons assigned to them that focus on the EXACT SKILLS THEY NEED. These lessons are engaging and include fun games that serve as brain breaks. All students, except for kindergarten, had experience with iReady lessons last year. In the past lessons were completed at school. However, since our focus is to maximize teacher face to face instruction on the days we have our students, the iReady lessons are being assigned to our 2 day a week students for the days in which they are off-campus learning. Your child can work on iReady without any assistance of an adult. All they need is their iPad and internet access. Students know how to log in and usernames/passwords are also located on their iPad bag. Your child's teacher is monitoring the lessons so that they may intervene or celebrate when appropriate. If your child is performing above level or below level, the lessons will give them support or enrichment because they are targeted to fit their needs. To maximize the targeted learning each week, we recommend 45 minutes of iReady Math and 45 of iReady Reading each week. This can be broken down to be achieved throughout the week. Grade levels have developed goals of how many lessons students should pass each week. Students will take the iReady Diagnostic two more times this year. The next time is in December and again at the end of the school year. We will use these results to measure student growth. Every student has their own growth goal, and we will track progress together. Celebrating student growth is one of the most exciting things we do at school. If you need further assistance with iReady, please reach out to your child's teacher.
