It’s time for our 3rd- 4th grade students to take the West Virginia Summative Assessment (WVGSA). Students will test Wednesday, May 15th and Thursday, May 16th. Please help us encourage students to perform their best on testing days. Please help make sure students are well rested, on time, and have eaten breakfast or eat a school breakfast. Students should not be signed out for appointments on these days either. If you have any questions please contact your students teacher.

Parents can visit students classroom after the program then sign them out early with the teacher at 2:30. This event is sponsored by Title 1.

Couple of reminders for this week: Tomorrow students March Madness Bingo reading papers are due. They must be turned in by April 4th to be eligible for a prize! 3rd- 5th grade track try-outs are tomorrow after school. Students need to have their permission slips to try-out. Friday, April 5th are the 3rd Nine Week Awards and Spelling Bee. Parents are welcome to attend: 3rd Awards will start at 8:30am followed by the 2nd- 3rd grade Spelling Bee 4th & 5th Awards will start at 9:30 am followed by the Spelling Bee.

Upcoming Events and Changes: Next week is Book Fair week! Mrs. Tucker sent home envelopes for you to use to send money or e-wallet money for students to shop. Please use those envelopes to send all money so nothing is misplaced. Parent shopping night will be Thursday, March 21st after school until 4:30pm. Change- Our Spelling Bee and Awards has been moved from March 22nd- April 5th: 2nd- 3rd Grade-Spelling Bee and 3rd Grade Nine Week Awards 8:30-9:30am 4th and 5th Grade- Spelling Bee and 3rd Nine week Awards 9:30-10:30am Parents are welcome to attend. Dismissal reminders: Please avoid blocking driveways of residents around the school. In the entrance if you are in the pick up line, please move over to the right as far as you can to allow busses and other traffic to enter the parking lot. Spring Break is March 25th- April 1st!

Calendar update: In order to account for missed school days due to inclement weather, students will now attend school on May 31 as well as June 3 and 4. Preschool will attend May 28 and 29. For staff, June 5 will be a curriculum development day (students do not attend) and June 6 will be a day to prepare for the end of the school year (students do not attend).

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Wood County Board of Education will meet in special session Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, to conduct candidate interviews and appoint an interim board member to a vacant seat. The board has consulted with the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wood County Clerk’s Office and has been advised, due to election cycle deadlines, a selection must be made by February 12, 2024. The online application period for those interested in applying for the interim position will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 12. The board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. to announce the candidates and interviews will begin at 6:00 p.m. An appointment announcement will follow the completion of the interviews on February 12. Those submitting an application by Sunday, February 11, will be informed of their interview time before 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12. Applicants submitting applications on Monday, February 12, will be contacted as applications are received throughout the day to have interviews arranged for that evening.
