Students will receive a form to opt out of the CyberSwat requirement in the Advisory period today or you can also use the online form shared by Central Office.
Dear Parents and Guardians, As part of a statewide effort to support student safety, the West Virginia Legislature passed Senate Bill 466 in 2024. This law requires students in grades 3 - 12 to receive annual instruction through the Safety While Accessing Technology (SWAT) program. To support implementation of this requirement, the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) has purchased the Skyll platform, which is used to deliver this instruction. The goal of the program is to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to use technology safely, responsibly, and effectively. Today's students regularly interact with digital tools for learning, communication, and exploration. Instruction provided through the SWAT program is designed to guide students in making informed decisions online and to promote positive, responsible digital behavior. We also recognize that some of the topics addressed - such as online safety risks and digital interactions - may be sensitive in nature for some students and families. We encourage you to review the program information carefully and determine what you feel is most appropriate for your child. If you do not want your child to participate in the Safety While Accessing Technology (SWAT) program, you may opt out by completing the Opt-Out Form. We value our partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping ensure students are safe, both in school and in their digital lives.
