Dear students and parents: On Thursday, October 26th, 2023, from 11:am-6:30pm, teachers will be available for parent teacher conferences. If you are wanting to meet with one of your student’s teachers, please do so one of the following ways: • You may message the specific teacher though Schoology • You may email the specific teacher using the following link: https://www.woodcountyschoolswv.com/o/ph/staff • You may call the school and leave a message with Mrs. Wichterman in the counseling center. who will in turn contact the teacher and the teacher will contact you to set up a time. Parents remember that these time slots are only 15 minutes long and teachers will also be scheduling their lunch and plan during this time frame as well. We look forward to seeing you and addressing your concerns if needed.

This information is for all stakeholders: 1-We be having some issues with our main phone line calling in. It is being addressed. If you have a concern and can not get through please email us instead. 2-For the last 4 years, PHS has hired a security company to help Vet those coming in and out of the back parking lot. So that you are prepared as a parent, or student, or staff member, here are the expectations: The security guard will work 730-3 daily while students are present. From 730-8 in the morning, parents will be allowed to drop off students in the back. After 8am all students must be dropped off at the main entrance in the horseshoe. No one will be allowed past the guard unless you have a parking permit, or you are visiting the health clinic. I know there are many parents that like to come in the back lot and park to pick up after school. You can still do that but not passed the guard until 3:00. Also any student who drives to and from school will have to have their parking pass tag displayed, a copy of their schedule if they leave campus to go to Tech, Caperton, or WVUP and they will have to show their pink slip if they have an appointment. At PHS we take safety and security very seriously. Inconvenience will never trump the importance of attempting to keep our students and staff safe. Also, as a reminder, no students should be in their cars during lunch due to the community having access to the Coplin Center and parents all food or things you need to drop off needs to be done through the secure entrance at the front of the school. Please do not just pull up and your student walk outside. Please park, come in, and drop off the food. Remember you can only bring food for your student and not anyone else. All outside food deliveries not from a parent will be confiscated or turned away. That means we do not allow things like Door Dash or Dominos or anyone else bring food to the school for students. Thank you for understanding that we just don’t want anyone to be allowed to freely come and go in the back lot without following the proper procedures in place. If you have any further question please give us a call.

Good evening, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School with an important message to those parents of students with IEPs. The WVDE will be visiting three Wood County Schools for a special education on-site monitoring in October, and Parkersburg High School has been randomly selected. The Special Education Monitoring Team will visit PHS on October 18th. As part of the on-site monitoring, parents of students with IEPs will have the opportunity to complete a survey and be apart of an in-person focus group meeting. The survey link (https://forms.office.com/r/mZwqwd0N65) is posted on our school website, in this message, on our Facebook Page and has been sent to all student emails so that access is available on all platforms. If you are parents of a student with exceptionalities who have concerns and/or additional feedback, please plan to attend the in-person parent focus group meeting from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on 10/18/23 at the school. If you have any further questions about this onsite visit, please call us at 304-420-9595 or you may call the WCS Special Education Dept. at 304-420-9663. Thank you and have a good evening.

*Student Test Scores* In spring 2023, students in Grades 3 through 8 took the General Summative Assessment and students in Grade 11 took the SAT School Day assessment. On Tuesday, September 12, students will receive a printed copy of their individual student score report which will contain information regarding each student's performance on the tested areas. To further assist parents/guardians in understanding their child's performance on the WVGSA or the SAT School Day, the West Virginia Department of Education is providing an individual video score report for each student in addition to the printed report.. A link to your child's individual video score report will be sent to your child's K12 student email address on September 12th. Please work with your student to access the link in the email. When you click on the link, you will be taken to a site where you will need to enter your child's date of birth to access the video report. Resources are also available at that site to help your student. If you need assistance in locating the video score report link, or if you do not know your child's K12 email address or password, you may contact your child's school, or contact Cathy Grewe at the Wood County Schools Board Office at 304-420-9663 Extension 122.
