This is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School with some important information for all parents and students. For those Juniors and Seniors interested in early college at WVU Parkersburg, registration days will be on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Parkersburg High School. This will be a drive through fashion in the front horseshoe. If all students planning to take early college/dual credit classes in Fall 2020 can attend during one of these days, WVU Parkersburg staff will make sure students are registered and have the information needed. Payment can also be made at this date. There have been many phone calls and emails concerning the re-entry to school on September 8th. If you have not done so, please download the Wood County Schools app for updated information. You can follow as may live feeds as you want using this app from various schools. All of our announcements go through this app which also goes on our Facebook Page. Regardless of what interpretation you may have of the Governor’s announcement yesterday, I want to be clear that as of 3:00 PM today, Thursday, August 6th, nothing has changed. WCS will open in a Code Yellow on September 8th, unless changes come forth. Code Yellow means that on M/W students with last names beginning with A-K attend, and on T/TH students with last names beginning with L-Z attend. Currently we are taking requests only for families who want to attend on the same days that live in the same household but may have different last names. There is no guarantee it will be honored due to restrictions on class and lunch sizes. Please be patient as we get closer to our start date as more information will be released. I also want to be clear that there is a major difference in distance learning and virtual school. Distance learning is provided by your regularly scheduled classroom teachers when WCS is operating in a code red or yellow, but not in a code green. Virtual school is not ran by PHS teachers. Even though you are still enrolled, it is ran by WV Virtual school teachers and the content is, in my opinion, much more difficult than instruction from regular classroom teachers. Parents I want to caution you, if your student has an IEP and your plan is for them to take virtual school classes, that their accommodations will be hard to meet, if met at all, since there is no face to face instruction with virtual school. Please make sure you understand the difference. There is no current option right now for students to just say, "I’m not coming to school and I will stay home and do my classes through my regular teachers 5 days a week"; that only occurs we are in a code red. If that is the choice you want for your student, please contact Jason Potts at the board of education or go to the WCS website and click on Menu and then Events to sign up for virtual school. Thank you for your time, please download the app for further updates. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.

Good morning, last evening the Wood County BOE approved the revised 2020-2021 school calendar. The calendar can be found on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com then click "menu" then "COVID -19". Also, the WCBOE approved our draft re-entry to school plan, which is subject to change as new guidelines are being established each day. The draft re-entry plan can be found on our website in the "News" feed. Please take time to review the re-entry plan and provide feedback so changes can be considered. As of tonight, Wood County Schools will begin school September 8 in the "yellow" phase and will continue in "yellow" for the first three (3) weeks. On September 21/22, after analyzing community data related to COVID-19, we will make an informed decision to hopefully go "green" (5 days) beginning Monday, September 28. Please continue to follow all safety protocols to help our school system return to normal as quickly as possible. Stay safe and healthy. Have a great day.

Good evening, To better prepare for the upcoming fall semester, Wood County Schools is seeking an accurate number of students who would like to participate in a full-time virtual school program.  Students would be a Wood County student choosing to take their classes online in a rigorous, web-based learning environment.  The virtual school teachers are West Virginia teachers teaching West Virginia content standards.  Students will still be able to participate in extracurricular (sports, clubs) and co-curricular activities (Band, ROTC) as would any other student.  This is not an easier pathway, but a different pathway to utilize during these uncertain times.  The program is for students in grades K -12 interested in a virtual school learning environment.  If interested in pursuing the virtual school option for your child, please visit our webpage woodcountyschoolswv.com, click “Menu”, “Parents and Students”, “Virtual School”. You can also email Jason Potts at jason.potts@k12.wv.us for more information. Please stay safe and healthy - Have a wonderful evening.

Senior Yard Signs!
This is the exact narrative that went out this evening for the all-call: "Hello, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School, with an important message for all students, especially seniors and senior parents. On Thursday, June 25th, at 10:00 AM, we will have our Senior Color Day. Students will be able to line up in the horseshoe starting at 8:30 AM. We will begin festivities with the raising of our senior flag at 10:00 AM and the parade will start there afterwards. Students will be limited to the number of passengers based upon the number of doors on their vehicle. So, for example, if you have a 2-door vehicle in the parade, you and one passenger will only be allowed. If you have a four-door vehicle you will only be allowed to have up to four people in your vehicle. No one will be allowed to sit in a truck bed, hang out the windows or sit improperly. No trailers or floats are allowed. Only registered licensed vehicles are permitted in the parade. All vehicles will be checked coming into the horseshoe and leaving for the parade for compliance. There will be no exceptions to these rules. Students may decorate their cars in the horseshoe prior to the parade, keeping in mind that social distancing is highly recommended along with wearing masks. The parade will leave the horseshoe, go down Washington Ave., down through and around the park, and then back up Washington Ave. The parade will finish in the back parking lot when at that time we will have graduation practice on the field at 11:00am. During practice we will be distributing packets to you that will include honor cords and other important information along with your yard signs in which you all voted on via the all call survey this past weekend. Those seniors not wishing to participate in Color Day, graduation practice will start at 11:00 AM at Stadium Field. When you arrive at the stadium, please come out and find a seat that will already be staged on the field for you to sit in; you may sit where you want. On Friday, June 26th at 5:30 pm, our graduation will begin at Stadium Field rain or shine. Each student will be limited to 3 guests per Covid-19 distancing protocols. A family of 3 will be able to sit together, but they will sit 6 feet from the next family and seats will be marked. In the event we have severe weather (like expected thunderstorms, high winds etc.), our severe weather date is Saturday, June 27th at 2:00. In order to cut down on items being handed back and forth, tickets will not be distributed. Graduates will walk in with their families of 3 or less; there will be no re-entry. We are working with local entities to make sure that the graduation will be televised or live-streamed and/or on the radio. Those details are not complete yet. Many of you will have certain questions that will require more detail about graduation and another all call will be coming out later in the week concerning more details since I am limited to 3 min. on the all-call. Sr. all night party raffle gifts will be held at graduation practice. You must be in attendance to win. Also, senior exit surveys are posted on our school webpage ( https://www.takemyschoolsurvey.com/e…/WV_Parkersburg2020.htm ). I also wanted to congratulate Miss Olivia Christ who has been named our Valedictorian! I appreciate your patience in the anticipation of this great news. We look forward to celebrating the class of 2020. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at 304-420-9595 or email me at kdemoss@k12.wv.us . Thank you and have wonderful evening!

Seniors voted via all-call to have their senior yard signs picked up the day of graduation practice instead of putting them on the front lawn of the school. Signs were made by Interstate Studio and purchased by the school with no costs to parents. If you would like to make a donation to Parkersburg High School to help cover the costs of these double sided signs, please contact the school at 304-420-9595 and ask for the Finance Office.
