When you walk into Student Services at PHS, the first thing you see is Mary Lou. On the left, is the flag that flew over the US Capital on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 in honor of Mary Lou and on the right is the “in memoriam”. RIP Mary Lou! Gone, but never forgetten.

Hello, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School, with an important follow up to the first day of school. I want to thank all of the students and staff today for their patience and perseverance getting through the first day of school. We didn’t have one single discipline issue today. Every student that we encountered was courteous about readjusting their mask and staying socially distant when asked and being where they were supposed to be. Just a forethought, however, for those who might think that past poor behaviors are OK to try, they are not. We are in the midst of a global pandemic and when it comes to the health and safety of others, civil disobedience will not be tolerated. So, do as you are asked, wear your mask, sit where you are supposed to, and do it the best you can! We are very confident in you as young adults that you have the ability to be well disciplined. A couple thoughts on A-K attending their first day tomorrow based upon re-entry today: 1- After 7:30AM students will report to their 1st period class. If you do not have a copy of your schedule, one will be provided for you in 1st period. 1st period rosters are posted on the 1st floor in case you do not know where to go. 2- Tech Center students will start tomorrow. Bus schedules have been posted online and by the offices. 3- Bring a water bottle to drink from through out the day, since many of our regular water fountains are shut down. We still have water bottle filling stations for you to use and there are more to come. 4- All students need to wear a mask in class. The only time it would be acceptable is if a student is eating breakfast in the homeroom in the morning. All the rest of the time it must be worn. 5- Your student needs to bring their iPad daily with them to school. If your student has not received theirs yet, please make sure their AUP has all signatures and it is brought back with them in order to use their iPad. 6- Students should enter and exit each room by using hand sanitizer. 7- Lunches- we have 3 lunches this year that are all 43 min long. Please make sure you understand where you can go during lunch. You can sit in your car by yourself if you park on campus with your permit. You may sit in the cafeteria on one of the green dots facing the same way as everyone else and not turning around. You may sit out back or out front at one of the table, by yourself. You can also sit in the front hallway by the girl’s restroom. Remember that A-K students will also attend Friday this week. Again, thank you for your time. Have a good evening.

Part 3: 6-Covid-19 is no joking matter. As I said in my re-entry video, I personally do not like wearing a mask, but I do so to protect those around me. Washing your hands, Wearing a mask, and Watching your distance are important protocols here on campus whether you have been practicing those habits or not since March 13th. We are all heading down a brand-new road of public education. I know that many of you will be excited to see your friends and many of you will have anxiety about returning to school under the circumstances. We are fully prepared, to the best of our ability, to handle the re-entry providing that everyone from staff to student does their part to keep others safe and to be where they are supposed to be at all times. I am very excited to see all of you and encourage all of you to have patience and perseverance, because at the end of the day WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

Part 2: 3 cont.-. When you go to 1st period, you can not get your iPad until your AUP has been signed You won’t be allowed to use it or borrow it until it is brought in with all signatures. Teachers will provide you with one tomorrow for those not having a AUP form for an iPad. 4-If you do not have a hanging tag in the back-parking lot for your vehicle please do not park there. We do not want the first day of school to be ruined for a Senior because someone parked in their spot. NO TAG, NO Parking! Seniors will have until the end of the day Wednesday to pick up forms from Mr. Lawrence in the admin office for those who have not gotten a spot yet.. Thursday we will open it up to Juniors who want spots. It will be on a first come, first serve basis. 5-Those students who have a tech center schedule, if you ride a bus to school, during your tech center periods you will need to wait in the library, due to the Tech Center not open yet. If you drive to school, you do not need to show up until your scheduled time for class on the PHS Campus. The Tech and Caperton Bus schedules have been posted on the webpage. Once you arrive to school tomorrow, after 7:30 you will be required to report to 1st period. 1st period begins at 8:08.

Part 1: Hello, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal at Parkersburg High School. When I do the all calls I am very limited on time. So I want to hit on some key points before we start school tomorrow. 1-If you have not watched the video on our Facebook Page about our re-entry plan and procedures, please do so. It will also be shown the first two days of school during 1st period. 2-All staff and students must where a mask at all times in Code Yellow. The mask must cover both your mouth and nose. On the first two days of school, we will be handing out a brand new mask to you provided by WCS as you walk into our building from our two entry points; one as you drop off in the horseshoe and one from the back parking lot. Which leads me to my 3rd point. 3-Please disregard the color-coding system for the state as it pertains to WCS. WCS has its own color-coding system and its vitally important that you pay close attention to it. Although, the color coding system for the state is important as far as showing the increase or decrease in Covid-19 Spread by county WCS operates by its color system as far as being open for all, half, or none at all. Right now, we are starting school in a Code yellow. This week, students with last names that begin with L-Z will come Tuesday and Thursday and students with last names that begin with A-K will come Wednesday and Friday. If you have not picked up your iPad or schedule, there will be room assignments for 1st period posted in both the front and back hallways as you enter.

This is a reminder that the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 8th for students with last names beginning with L-Z. On Wednesday, September 9th, students with last names A-K will report to school. Due to Monday being Labor Day, students with last names A-K will report Friday, September 11th as well. Please visit the Wood County Schools website, and then click “2020-2021 Re-entry Summarization” for more details. Our re-entry schedule has not changed since being published. Students will attend school on a Blended-Model of instruction for 3 weeks, which is our Yellow Schedule, or until proper procedures, protocols, and new standards have been taught and implemented. Also, please do not confuse yourself with the WVDE color-coded map. The map is used as one of many tools to drive local decisions for our school system. As mentioned in previous communications, we will closely monitor the data each day to make well-informed and deliberate decisions, while keeping safety as the top priority for our students and employees. Over the last six months, we have worked diligently and methodically to create a well-rounded plan for re-entry. I’m sure we have not thought about every issue that may arise - please be patient as we work through making adjustments, changing protocols or procedures, and seeking feedback from our stakeholders to make this school year a great success. Although not a requirement, I am asking each student to bring their own mask and bottle of water on the first day of school. This will help expedite first day procedures and practices for our schools as they begin teaching expected behaviors for the year. Students will receive a Wood County mask on the first day and will be expected to possess and use it on a continual basis as we navigate through a new normal for our school system. We are so excited to see your children in our schools once again. We have greatly missed their presence the last six months. As always, make sure to Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. To view our first WCS Newsletter, please click https://tinyurl.com/yxbaddej Have a safe and wonderful Holiday weekend.

Tech Center students will need to stay at PHS until further notice due to the Tech Center being closed for unexpected maintenance. When it reopens we will let you know. Those students who ride the bus to and from school, will need to report to the library during their Tech Center class time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School with an important message for all student and parents. On our current schedule of iPad rollout, we've had many iPads picked up between Monday and Tuesday. Right now, it is Wednesday and we have very few students here, so I'm opening up the invitation for all students that have not picked up their iPad to come and pick them up today or tomorrow. We are open here till 3:00 o'clock in the back-parking lot, underneath the bus canopy. There are windows open for you to come up to to get your iPad. So again, if you have not picked up your iPad, it really doesn’t matter about the alphabet right now, just come and pick it up, because we hardly have anyone here. We only have about 600 iPads left! So I appreciate your cooperation. I hope to see you soon to come by and pick up your iPad. We will be here till 3:00 today, and from 9 to 3 on Thursday. Thank you and have a good day!

Good evening, Each Sunday evening, from this day forward, I will provide all stakeholders an update from the WVDHHR and WVDE Covid-19 metrics data for Wood County. The metics data will be used to govern activities and other requirements in our school system for the upcoming week. This week, Wood County has a 2.74 average seven day trend, which includes 16 probable and confirmed positive cases the last seven days. We will continue to analyze the data of the metrics, and make necessary adjustments on protocols and procedures in our schools based on current trends. For the upcoming week of August 31, Wood County is “Green” on the metrics; therefore, all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are allowed to participate. However, three counties in WV - Kanawha, Monroe, and Logan are orange or red in the metrics and will not be allowed to participate in any activities this week. As you can see, this is a community driven metrics, which has serious implications for our school system. Please do your part and encourage others on the 3 W’s to help our students return in-person to our schools - Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. Once again, please download our mobile app on our website and continually check the “News” feed to stay up to date on what is happening in our schools. Keep up the great work. Have a great evening.

Hello, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School, with an important message for all staff students and parents. Beginning Monday, August 31st, through Thursday, September 3rd, we will be distributing iPads for our students in the back-parking lot underneath the bus canopy from 9am-3pm. Students with last names A through K need to come on Monday and Wednesday and students with last names L through Z need to come on Tuesday and Thursday. Students must line up at one of the 5 windows we have available out of the back cafeteria, stay socially distant, and YOU MUST WEAR a MASK! We are highly encouraging, due to the fact we do not want large lines, that freshmen and sophomores come between 9:00 and 12:00 on their schedule day and juniors and seniors come on their day from 12 to 3. When you come to pick up your iPad you will also be able to pick up your class schedule. If for some reason you are unable to pick up your iPad on the day that you are supposed to pick yours up, you may come at an alternate day providing that there's no other way that you can pick it up on your planned day. Those not picked up will not receive it the first day of school, unless their AUP is signed by both parent and student. Also, parents if you have more than one child here at the school you may pick them up on the same day if they have different last names. A parent and student must come together to sign their AUP to pick up their iPad. If you show up and you have already printed out your AUP, all signatures must be on the paper. Your iPads are already preloaded because our wonderful staff preloaded them for you this week; other than waiting in line it shouldn’t take long. Thank you and kudos to our staff members that help set up the iPads! It was a very big undertaking and you did a great job. Also, I want to think the custodians in our building for doing a tremendous job making our school look beautiful! The inside of our complex is immaculate because of their hard work and perseverance getting the school ready along with following Covid-19 protocols. Coming out this week will be some videos to show a virtual tour of our building which is highly important not only for the incoming freshmen, but for those that need to understand how protocols will be followed for Covid-19 within our building. We cannot have a in-person orientation prior to the first day of school, so these videos are very important to watch. On the first day of school, freshman in your STEAM/DG class, your teacher will take you on a guided tour to show you where the important parts of the building are including the cafeteria, the library, and the auditorium. Also, as a reminder, and I'll do another all call for this later, the first day of school is Tuesday September the 8th. Students with last names L through Z attend on Tuesday and Thursday and students with last names A through K attend on Monday and Wednesday. Due to the fact that we have a holiday weekend and we do not have school on Monday, September 7th, for Labor Day, that first week students whose last names A through K will also attend on Friday, September 10th. One last note for Juniors, Seniors will have a couple days to finish up the final parking spots as a privilege for them to pick for parking and then we will start selling spots for Juniors starting Thursday, September the 9th. If you have any further questions about anything I just said please give us a call at 304-420-9595. Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

iPads will be distributed in large ziploc bags that have labels with all student login information. Save the bag or at least save the label so you always have access to all of the wonderful tools available to you.
