🚨Reminder🚨 Stuff the Fire Truck today at Lubeck Fire Department- they will be accepting supplies from noon-4 🚒

As the start of school approaches, many are starting to think about school supplies. We provide students with all materials required for learning. The exceptions are personal items like tennis shoes, backpacks and lunch boxes. If you would like to donate, crayola crayons (they last the longest), pencils, soft tissues or paper towels, those are always welcome. We know that supply shopping can be a fun tradition, so some teachers may have an optional donation list available at open house or during the first days of school. Please, do not send trapper keepers or large binders with students as there is no space to store them. This year the Lubeck Fire Dept is also hosting a “Stuff the Fire Truck” on August 1 from noon-4:00. These supplies will go directly to Lubeck School. After August 1, teachers will be able to better gauge what items to include on those optional lists. Our community is extremely generous and we appreciate all that you do to support our Lubeck students! #LubeckPAWS

Good evening. We invite you to contribute to our ARP/ESSER plan by providing input to the ideas generated in spending funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER), targeting K-12 education. Your input will guide our plan to meet the needs of our students, staff, and community which will be presented to the West Virginia Dept. of Education on July 19. Your input is vitally important. To provide input, please click the following link or visit our website. Thank you. https://tinyurl.com/yfs5cvgh

We are aware that the school zone lights are still active in the front and back of the building. Unfortunately, we are unable to deactivate those directly from the school level. There are a variety of methods in which these are operated (directly, remotely, city, county, some WCS) and our district administrators are working to solve this issue as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

With the 2020-21 school year wrapping up, I would just like to say “Thank You!” Thank you to everyone: Students, parents, teachers, staff and community members. Thank you to everyone who has helped others get through this often challenging and frustrating year, and thank you to everyone for your patience and resilience. Even as we head into summer break, Wood County Schools is hard at work finalizing preparations for our summer programs which are set to begin later this month. These eight programs are unlike anything we have offered before and are sure to be engaging and fun for students at all grade levels. More than 1,500 students are enrolled and more than 200 teachers and staff have been hired to help make these programs a success. Wood County Schools’ summer offerings have been called a model for the state, and we intend to show everyone why we deserve to be called the best school system in West Virginia. I want everyone to have a wonderful summer and a well-earned break. Most importantly, though, I want everyone ready for this fall. Throughout all of our challenges, we have learned and we have grown, and it is time for us to put that hard-earned knowledge to work for our students. We want to provide all of our kids with the best possible opportunities in first-class facilities staffed by top-level teachers and caring adults. So as we say goodbye to the 2020-21 school year, let us look forward to the wonderful things we can accomplish together in the months and years ahead. Thank you everyone, and have a great summer!

If you would like to buy a yearbook, you may send $20 to school with your child to purchase one. We can only accept cash payments for yearbooks at this time. Extras are available on a first come, first serve basis. Students may bring their yearbooks back to school on Friday, June 4. Please make sure that their name is written on the inside cover. On that day, teachers will give time for students to get their yearbooks signed by their classmates.

Lubeck Families, Please assist your child in remembering to bring their mask to school each day. As we get closer to the end of the year, more and more kiddos are needing a disposable mask in the morning. We are happy to supply masks for those who need them, but if your student has some at home, please encourage them to bring them to school. Thank you for your help with this!

Parents/Guardians of Lubeck students in grades 3-5: Tomorrow, May 12, we will begin our first day of GSA testing. This is the BIG end of year test. There are specific procedures that we must follow when administering the test. Arriving on time to school is always important, but critical on testing days. If your child arrives late and testing had started, they will not be permitted to enter the classroom until testing is complete. Students will have to make up the test at a later time. The test schedule is as follows: May 12- Reading, May 13- Writing, May 19- Math, May 20- Science (5th grade only)

Virtual & Distance Learning Students (off-campus learners): Your iReady end of year diagnostic for math and reading has been assigned. You may log in and take your assessment at any time before May 28. Parents/Guardians, please provide your student with a quiet place to work. They may complete the assessment in multiple sessions. The end of the year is quickly approaching. We are looking forward to maximizing teaching and learning until the very end. Don't worry! There will be time for celebration as well! State testing (grades 3-5) and iReady End of Year Diagnostic assessments (k-5) are on the horizon. Please join us in reiterating the importance of these assessments. Teachers use the results of these tests to plan for future instruction. Knowing individual areas of strength and struggle is critical in helping every student to excel.

As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to take a moment to personally say ‘Thank You’ to all of Wood County Schools’ selfless and dedicated educators. This has been one of the most challenging school years in recent history. Our teachers have not only endured nearly impossible tasks but have risen to the challenge and have continued to place our students first. Our teachers and personnel have dedicated countless hours keeping students engaged, providing support and care to families, and giving our children a beacon of normalcy in an often turbulent and uncertain world. The work you do each day is more appreciated than you will ever know. Wood County Schools is blessed to have so many caring and dedicated teachers, and I want all of you to know: We see what you are doing and what you have done, and we are thankful you are here. Thank you for making a difference!
