2022-2023 VANDY Boys Basketball Program Meeting The 2022-2023 Van Devender Middle School Basketball Program will hold a mandatory parent meeting for parents and student athletes who are interested in playing basketball this season. The information is provided below with a list of dates and important items as we get started. Many of these things will be discussed at the meeting but I want to give the info to you now so that you can prepare. Thank You. WHAT: Parent/Student Athlete Meeting WHEN: November 3 at 6:30pm WHERE: Van Devender Middle School Cafeteria IMPORTANT INFORMATION • Tryouts will be on Monday November 7th at 6:00pm. This tryout will be for ALL BOYS interested in playing. This includes 6th grade as well as 7/8th grade perspective players. We will also do a second tryout date on November 11th at 9:00am. • For a student/athlete to tryout, he must have a physical on file in the office or one brought to the head coach the night of tryouts. If there is physical, the player may NOT tryout. • Players should bring basketball shoes, and a water bottle for the tryout. Players should be in shorts and a t-shirt. Sweats, jeans, hoodies, etc. will not be allowed at the tryout. • Parents, tryouts are a CLOSED gymnasium. We do not allow parents to watch tryouts for the purpose of making the players more nervous than they may already be. • We will make preliminary cuts on the first tryout date and then we will make final cuts on November 11th. A player must attend both tryout dates to be selected to the team. • Please understand that to make a middle school basketball team, there are certain skills and behaviors that must be present. I am in contact with Mr. Echard and Mrs. Lowers and any athlete who does not have the grades or is in constant trouble at school will not be allowed to try out.

Wood County Schools has made a change regarding the caller ID number for all mass calls and texts in which we want you to be aware. Previously, all mass calls made from Wood County Schools, used for emergencies or other important information, whether from the central office or from any individual school, used the number (304) 420-9520 for the caller ID. Starting today, all school mass calls will show a caller ID number that is the same as the school's main telephone number. District calls will continue to show a caller ID of (304) 420-9520. The caller ID number for any individual school may be verified by visiting the school's webpage and finding the phone number in the footer of the page.
