Good evening Franklin Families, We had many absences today. We hope our families were able to enjoy the Solar Eclipse with their students and use the event today to teach your students about Space. WCS has communicated that if your student missed school today due to the eclipse, please send a note to your child's teacher and the absent will be excused.

Buses may be delayed this morning due to high water in several areas across the county. We appreciate your patience as we work to safely pick up and deliver students this morning.

All Wood County Schools after-school and evening activities will be CANCELLED tonight (Tuesday, April 2, 2024) due to incoming inclement weather. Schools will dismiss at their normal times today.

Boys and Girls Club will be closed this evening. Please contact the school or Dojo your child's teacher to let us know what your child should do for dismissal.

Good evening Franklin Families, This week Grades 3-5 will be taking the WV General Assessment Writing Test. This test takes most of the day to complete. Please make every effort to have your student at school, on time, and well rested. Encourage students to do their best on this test. Their score on this assessment will be combined with their ELA Assessment in May for their overall score for the year. 4th Grade on Monday 5th Grade on Tuesday 3rd Grade on Wednesday Also Franklin PTO is currently having their raffle fundraiser for a chance to win any of the three prize packages valued at approximately $700 each. If you need more tickets, please contact your child's teacher and we will make sure you get them.

Tomorrow we kick off our Read Across America Celebrations with If I Ran a Zoo-- Dress as your favorite animal or wear animal print. Also, Franklin PTO's Raffle for Gift Card Package Raffle will kick off Monday. Raffle tickets will be sold---one ticket for $1 or six tickets for $5 for a chance to win one of the three gift card packages all valued at approximately $700. All money and tickets are due by March 15. Drawing will be held on March 19 at 5:30 during the PTO meeting. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Calendar update: In order to account for missed school days due to inclement weather, students will now attend school on May 31 as well as June 3 and 4. Preschool will attend May 28 and 29. For staff, June 5 will be a curriculum development day (students do not attend) and June 6 will be a day to prepare for the end of the school year (students do not attend).

Bus 144 has just departed Franklin.

Good afternoon Franklin Families, Tomorrow students will be rewarded for their I-Ready Growth by having a Glow Dance Party. All students in K-5 will attend the dance. Students will want to wear colors that glow under black lights. The more students grew the more glow sticks they will have. For every 10% of growth they had on their mid-year benchmark they will get a glow stick. I-Ready parent reports and certificates will also be coming home tomorrow. If you have any questions about their parent reports, please contact your child's teacher. Have a wonderful evening!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Wood County Board of Education will meet in special session Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, to conduct candidate interviews and appoint an interim board member to a vacant seat. The board has consulted with the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wood County Clerk’s Office and has been advised, due to election cycle deadlines, a selection must be made by February 12, 2024. The online application period for those interested in applying for the interim position will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 12. The board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. to announce the candidates and interviews will begin at 6:00 p.m. An appointment announcement will follow the completion of the interviews on February 12. Those submitting an application by Sunday, February 11, will be informed of their interview time before 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12. Applicants submitting applications on Monday, February 12, will be contacted as applications are received throughout the day to have interviews arranged for that evening.

Wood County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 19, 2024 due to inclement weather.

Due to icy road conditions and frigid temperatures, Wood County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Open enrollment starts today. Complete the form at woodcountyschoolswv.com/enrollment. Need some assistance or do not have access to the form? Visit your school office. The central office, at 1210 13th St. in Parkersburg, is another option for assistance with completing the form.

Open Enrollment begins at noon today (Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024). If you would like your child to attend a school outside of your current attendance zone, you must complete the online enrollment form. The link opens at noon today.

Wood County Schools' open enrollment process will change for the 2024-2025 school year. All open enrollment requests are to be made beginning on January 16 at noon on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com/enrollment. The enrollment is also available on the WCS app. If your child currently attends a school out of district, or you would like for your child to attend a school out of district, you will need to complete an online application. Although the form is simple to complete, if you feel you may need some assistance with the application process, or you do not have access to a device or the internet, all secretaries at our schools have an iPad and can assist you beginning at noon on Tuesday, January 16. If you child attends the school that corresponds to your home address, and you wish for this to continue, there is no action needed on your part.
