Based upon our internet access survey this past September, Wood County Schools has secured Wi-Fi hotspots for those who have a need and have no or unreliable internet. If you have a child who attends any Wood County Schools’ elementary school, you may pick up a Wi-Fi hotspot in the student parking lot at Parkersburg South High School. A map can be found on the Wood County Schools’ website. Pickup is available on Monday, February 21st, from eight to four. It is not necessary to call ahead.

Due to inclement weather, the county social studies fair has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 19.

January and February Family Writing Project
In honor of President's Day, our January and February Writing Project will focus on learning about the White House. I have posted three videos in the news section of our school website and on Facebook. Please watch the videos with your kids and complete the writing assignment that is coming home this week. The writing project ask you to record 3 things you learned, 2 U.S. Presidents, and 1 room or thing that you would change about the White House for future first families. Projects are due January 18. All students who submit an accurate and completed project will be entered in a $20 drawing for a fast food gift card of choice. I am looking forward to reading your projects.

Last Thursday we celebrated learning in a big way!
Katie Carroll has been our student teacher since August. She did an amazing job! Due to COVID, WVUP, wasn't able to hold a formal graduation, so we did it Falcon style. I also took the opportunity to talk to students about hopes, dreams, and the future. Thank you Mrs. Carroll. We will see you soon!

Mrs. Buchanan's KG students have been hard at work this fall. Check out what they have learned and what they want to learn after Christmas break. I can't wait to see their progress!

Don't forget to send in pennies for our penny war. All proceeds to to the Humane Society. Students are using the pennies to vote for their favorite Christmas trees.
Also, tomorrow evening from 5:00-7:00 families may visit the building and see all of the trees. Penny votes will be accepted during this time.

Thank you Suttle & Stalnaker! For the last few years, Suttle & Stalnaker have invited us the participate in their annual Thanksgiving Card Contest. Students are asked to illustrate "What Thanksgiving Means to Them". The grand prize winner has their picture placed on a card that Suttle & Stalnaker sends out to their clients. Congratulations Riot Godfrey. Our runners-up included Emily Thomas, Aubrey Stone, Samuel Borchert.

Congratulations to Addison Ferguson! She was our December Family Writing Activity Winner. She has requested a $20 Gift Card to Chick-fil-a.
We will be doing a January/February Writing activity when we get back from break.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to turn in your December Family Writing Project! I'll be posting pictures soon.

Franklin family and friends,
I wanted to update you on Brooklyn Arthur. She passed away on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati Children's Hospital. We do not know the funeral arrangements at this time.
The fire ring fundraiser raised $733.00 and Whitney Wells was the winner. The organizers provided the funds to Brooklyn's mom.
If you would like to help with funeral expenses, you can send donations to Franklin Elementary Center
Attention: Angel Fund for Brooklyn
1511 Division St. Ext.
Parkersburg, WV 26101
Checks are to be made to Jennifer Roton or Jessi Crew not to the school.
Jennifer and Jessi have set up a checking account at WesBanco. They will pay funeral expenses from that account. If you would rather use GoFund Me, a GoFund Me has also been set up by family friends for Brooklyn. You should be able to find it on Facebook. The picture that I posted here is attached to the GoFund Me page. Please continue to keep this family in your thoughts. Please do not contact mom during this difficult time.

Kudos to the students of the Wood County Schools' Elementary Honor Choir for an excellent performance! Enjoy the recording of the live streamed event.

I wanted to thank everyone for the support and generosity that you showed Brooklyn and her family after my last post. Brooklyn is back at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with her family. The cancer is taking more of Brooklyn each day. At this time, she is not expected to return home. Many of you asked how you could help.
Two parents are working together to coordinate donations. They have set up a checking account that will be used to help Brooklyn and her family during this challenging time. If you would like to donate, you may send money to:
Franklin Elementary Center
Attention: Angel Fund
1511 Division St. Extension
Parkersburg, WV 26101
Please make checks payable to Jessi Crew or Jennifer Roton.
In the memo space, please write Brooklyn.
Do not make checks payable to the school. We cannot accept them.
The family respectfully ask that you not contact them with questions or messages at this time. They want to focus on loving Brooklyn.
Please be in prayer for this family.
Love your children. Take the time to listen, to give an extra hug, to tuck them in at night, to listen to them breathe while they are sleeping. Cherish every minute.
