Changes to the Promise Scholarship Requirements have been approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC) for the class of 2022 and 2023. For 2022 and 2023 Promise applicants, the test score requirements have been lowered as follows:
ACT Minimum Requirement
ACT composite score - 21 (previously 22)
ACT English score - 19 (previously 20)
ACT Reading score - 19 (previously 20)
ACT Science score - 19 (previously 20)
ACT Math score - 19 (previously 20)
SAT Minimum Requirement
SAT composite score - 1080 (previously 1100)
SAT Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing score - 510 (previously 530)
SAT Math score - 510 (previously 520)
Superscoring
Applicants may use a superscore to achieve the minimum test score requirement on either format. Superscoring allows students to take their top score from subsections of various ACT or SAT exam dates and combine them for a higher overall score. Superscores will automatically be calculated based on the individual test scores received by our office.
Only one qualifying score is required on either the ACT or SAT, not both.
Deadlines
Applicants have until July 2022 to achieve an eligible test score but still need to meet the March 1 deadline for the Promise application and FAFSA to qualify for a fall 2022 award, whether they currently have a qualifying ACT or SAT score or not.
All other eligibility requirements remain in place and can be reviewed on the collegeforwv.com website.
