Reminder, there is no school for students on Thursday, Oct. 26 (Parent-Teacher Conferences) or Friday, Oct. 27 (Professional Learning Day). Classes resume as normal on Monday, Oct. 30.

Please share! Parent Teacher Conference forms were sent home with students on Tuesday, October 17. Please complete and send back for your student’s teachers to schedule your requested times. Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October, 26. Parents: 1. Select the time frame you would like to schedule conferences. 2. Record the names of teachers you would like to meet with. 3. Send the paper back to school with your student to share with their teachers. 4. Teachers will indicate the time of the conference on your student’s paper. 5. Students will return the paper home to you. See you in October 26!

Parkersburg South High School students collected $472.90 to donate to the United Way. This was done during Spirit Week of Homecoming. Students also collected canned goods and other items for our school pantry. We are very proud of our student body for taking an active part in volunteerism and supporting our community needs. Promoting good citizenship is a top goal at South!

PSHS at the Jim Kessel Big Red Band Competition in Parkersburg, WV. PSHS Band swept their Class A awards- Percussion, Drum Major, Twirler, Color Guard, Music, Visual, and Overall Band. A few novice members of the Speaking Patriots started their Saturday morning quite early and competed in the Novice Speech and Debate season opener held at PHS. 🗣️ Congratulations to all who participated, and a special congratulations to junior, Sonnet Napier, for placing 2nd in Original Oratory and 3rd in Impromptu speaking. 🏆 Excellent work, Sonnet!

The Wood County Clerk's Office will be at PSHS tomorrow morning from 9 - 10:15 am. Students will be permitted to register to vote in the cafeteria. If a senior wants to register to vote, they need to bring a valid ID to present to verify age. Students may register if they are 17, and will be 18 in time to vote in the next general election on November 5, 2024. Students 17 years old may register and vote in primary elections, if they turn 18 before the next general election.

Wood County Schools is sponsoring a Vaping Prevention Poster Contest and a Video Contest giving students the opportunity to spread the message about the risks of vaping and nicotine addiction. Congratulations to the 2023 PSHS Homecoming Court! The homecoming parade will be on Tuesday, September 19, at 6 pm, followed by the Powderpuff Football game at Erickson.

The Class of 2027 signed a “commitment to graduate” today, after a presentation from Jason Ross of Josten’s.

*Student Test Scores* In spring 2023, students in Grades 3 through 8 took the General Summative Assessment and students in Grade 11 took the SAT School Day assessment. On Tuesday, September 12, students will receive a printed copy of their individual student score report which will contain information regarding each student's performance on the tested areas. To further assist parents/guardians in understanding their child's performance on the WVGSA or the SAT School Day, the West Virginia Department of Education is providing an individual video score report for each student in addition to the printed report.. A link to your child's individual video score report will be sent to your child's K12 student email address on September 12th. Please work with your student to access the link in the email. When you click on the link, you will be taken to a site where you will need to enter your child's date of birth to access the video report. Resources are also available at that site to help your student. If you need assistance in locating the video score report link, or if you do not know your child's K12 email address or password, you may contact your child's school, or contact Cathy Grewe at the Wood County Schools Board Office at 304-420-9663 Extension 122.

Fall sports and activities were represented by South students, as they visited their feeder schools on the annual spirit walk.

Happy Labor Day! All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 4th, in observance of the holiday. We will see you back on Tuesday during normal hours.

However, due to storms there are several buses delayed or unable to cross low lying creek areas. The following buses will be delayed: 49, 149, 154, 157, 162, 163, 172, 173, 175, 192, 199, 205, 210, 214, 216, and 236. No tardies will be issued today due to weather.
