WHS Juniors are hosting a Powder Puff football game on Friday, September 24 at 7:00PM. These Juniors will take on the reigning champion Seniors. Along with football, the event will feature cheerleaders. A small concession stand will be available. Please come out and show your support for this fun event. Tickets are $3.00.

Middle School tutoring will be available after school beginning Monday, Sept. 20. This is in addition to 0 Period (7:45-8:15) that is always available to students.

Mrs. Wooldridge has taught for 25 years. She has always taught elementary school until now. Mrs. Wooldridge has degrees from WVU-P, WVU, and Glenville. She started teaching at Waverly, where she met Kay Bowling, who inspired her to get a degree in administration. The lovely Mrs. Wooldridge is currently teaching reading intervention. Her mom and dad, both, were teachers, which had an impact on her career choice. After 10 years of teaching, Mrs. Wooldridge did have a career change. She became a pharmaceutical seller for two years. It became overwhelming, so she came back to teaching. In high school, she played softball and was in flag corps. And although St. Mary’s is her hometown, she loved teaching at Waverly. That is one reason why she moved here, considering that a third of our student body comes from there. Come visit her in lab 220 B!

When she was a little girl, the only thing Lisa Standiford wanted to be was a teacher. Now in her twelfth year of teaching English, Mrs. Standiford is looking forward to her second year here at Williamstown Middle/High School. “I’m very excited about more time here. Williamstown is a very different environment… a more inviting environment.” Hopeful that this year won’t be chaotic, she believes that the school will benefit from the increased spirit from school sports now that people are allowed to attend events. “That stuff is really important to how a school functions…how the students relate to each other.” -Gabriel Beverlin

Mrs. Shelley Wiley is the 6-9th grade counselor at Williamstown Middle/High School. Mrs. Wiley has always wanted to help people and make the world a better place. She graduated from Lee University in TN, then proceeded to get her Masters degree at Radford University in VA. Mrs. Wiley went to a small school, just like Williamstown. She was a four sport athlete in high school, participating in cross country, cheer, volleyball, and soccer. Mrs. Wiley succeeded in all of these sports and had a great impact on her school. She now lives with her loving husband and adorable golden doodle, Ellie. The Williamstown atmosphere reminded her and her family of the town in Virginia where they used to live. Since Williamstown is so similar to that town, her family loves the Williamstown community. It’s obvious that Mrs. Wiley cares about the students at WMHS, and we love having her caring heart.

As you might know, September is Suicide Awareness Month. The Counseling Department is working in conjunction with Westbrook Health Services to provide presentations to the student body called "Signs of Suicide." Due to high demand, Westbrook has scheduled WHS for dates in November and December. In the meantime, the Art Department has agreed to "Chalk the Walk". Art students will color the sidewalks around the school with messages of hope and positivity. The community is welcome to add to this project. (Please help us keep the messages positive.)

The Schooldigger.com 2021 school ratings are out. Williamstown Middle School finished 3rd in the state! Williamstown High School finished 8th in the state! Both are the highest rankings ever. This a testament to the wonderful students, staff, and community. Thank you everyone for making Williamstown a great place to live and learn!

Becky Brabham is a new teacher this year at Williamstown Middle/ High School, teaching as a Math Interventionist. Prior to this, she taught for 10 years at Williamstown and Martin Elementary Schools as a First Grade teacher. Mrs. Brabham grew up in Morgantown, WV and graduated from WVU-P. She didn’t always want to be a teacher; she originally thought she wanted to be a car mechanic or a marine biologist. Mrs. Brabham enjoys teaching at Williamstown for many reasons! Her children and grandchildren attend school here, and she gets to see lots of familiar faces. Some of the kids she taught in first grade at the elementary school are now high schoolers at WMHS. We are glad to have you as a Yellow Jacket, Mrs. Brabham!

Mrs. Hunt graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1986 and Glenville State College in 1992, where she majored in vocal performance. After college, she had planned to become a singer, and once, she even sang in a talent show in front of 15,000 people, including Garth Brooks! A teacher, however, pushed her to pursue education, and she now uses her voice to help others achieve their musical aspirations. Mrs. Hunt has taught at nearly every school in Wood County but chose to come to Williamstown and plans to stay here until she retires. In the arts, specifically music, programs are often cut, and people are transferred to different schools. When asked about what she loves most about her job, Ms. Hunt says, “The students are amazing; the community is supportive, and music is my passion.” When Mrs. Hunt isn’t teaching, she enjoys travelling and resting on the weekends with her cats, Spooky and Smokey. She spends time with her family, which in fact, is about to become larger. “I’m going to be a grandma for the first time in January!” Congratulations, Mrs. Hunt, and we are so happy to have you at Williamstown Middle/High School!

Tyler George is a Physical Education and Health teacher at Williamstown Middle-High School. He has been teaching for seven years. Tyler graduated from Williamstown and was a Wrestling State Runner-Up. He continued his education and wrestling career at Ohio Valley University. He wants his students to take his class to learn the importance that physical activity has on your health. Tyler is very involved in Williamstown and coaches wrestling and track. Coach George is a fun addition to our staff!

Our Journalism class is going to begin a series introducing the new staff members we have gained here at WMHS to share them to our community. Also, by next week, we hope to have short video productions from both the middle and high school journalism programs sharing along the great happenings in our school!

The WMHS Homecoming Parade will be this Friday. The parade will begin at 1:45 pm. We will come down Highland Avenue, turn right on 8th Street, right again on Henderson Avenue, right on Elizabeth Street, then we will head up Victoria Avenue to 5th street. Lastly, we will make a left onto 5th street back towards the school.

PSAT-NMSQT Registration (National Merit Scholarship Consideration) for Juniors only WHS Please register here if you are a junior and you wish to take the PSAT NMSQT again to be considered for the National Merit Scholarship Program: https://forms.gle/dMD6b3J5zbxCpakC6 You took it last year as a sophomore, so 11th graders DO NOT have to take the test again unless you are interested in the NMSP. Interested juniors must PAY $18 to take the test on October 26 at WHS. The DEADLINE for juniors to register for the PSAT-NMSQT is Monday, September 13 at 3pm. Pay Mrs. Chaddock $18 by cash or check (made out to Williamstown High School) before the deadline to complete your registration.
