Two Wood County Schools students have been named finalists in the MetroNews West Virginia Scholar Competition, a statewide contest that recognizes outstanding high school juniors across West Virginia.
The competition is presented by MetroNews in partnership with West Virginia Wesleyan College and several participating sponsors, including Greer Industries, Friends of Coal, the West Virginia Hospital Association, the West Virginia Farm Bureau, and MetroNews.
The contest offers significant scholarship prizes for West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. The grand prize is a four-year undergraduate scholarship covering tuition, fees, room, and board — valued at an estimated $160,000 — with enrollment beginning in the Fall 2027 semester. A second-place award offers a four-year, $5,000 scholarship, and a third-place award provides a four-year, $2,500 scholarship, both beginning Fall 2026. Second and third place awards may be combined with other Wesleyan academic scholarships.
The program is open to current high school juniors in West Virginia and is designed to support students pursuing higher education in the state.
