FIRST Lego League robotics scrimmage at WCTC

Robotics club hosts FLL scrimmage

PARKERSBURG - Dark Side Robotics and the West Virginia Robotics Alliance at hosted a FIRST Lego League robotics scrimmage Saturday at the Wood County Technical Center.

Two teams participated in the scrimmage: The Early Roboteers from Charleston and the The Tender Defenders from Parkersburg. The Roboteers is in its rookie season and the Defenders are the current state champions.

Each team presented an innovation project which this year focused on solving problems with package delivery. The teams received feedback from a large team of Dark Side team members and mentors.

The teams also ran missions with their robots to see how they  would function in a competition environment. Officials said the scrimmage was important because here are aspects of the FIRST Lego League robotics challenge that require more than one team to accomplish.

Members of both teams took a tour of the  technical center and the VEX and FIRST Robotics Competition labs at the tech center and had the opportunity to drive Dark Side’s robot.

Officials said both teams are early in their project development and will continue to seek feedback and improve their work as they get closer to their official competition.

Dark Side Robotics is a FIRST Robotics Competition team made of students from any high school in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Its new  season kicks off January 8, at which point students will learn a new game, determine a strategy for how they intend to play the game, design, prototype, build, code, test, and rebuild a robot to play that game with other teams at competitions in March.
