Wood BOE to meet Tuesday

PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will meet Tuesday (Dec. 21) in its final regular session of 2021.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the board’s central office at 1210 13th Street in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public and will be broadcast online via Zoom. 

The meeting will begin with multiple personnel and student recognitions: Parkersburg South High School Principal Betsy Patterson as West Virginia Student Council Principal of the Year; PSHS teacher Jamie Moss as West Virginia Student Council Advisor of the Year; Van Devender Middle School counselor Christy Bixman as the WVSCA Middle School Counselor of the Year; and the Wood County Schools Math Field Day winners.

The board will receive an update on facilities from Assistant Superintendent Mike Fling and a presentation on Policy 5145: Substance Abuse Tobacco and Nicotine Control Policy.

In addition to personnel and financial items, the school board will vote on a collaborative Cosmetology program with West Virginia University at Parkersburg, purchase and installation of bleachers and a press box at Williamstown Middle/High School, and four student expulsions. 

The board also will discuss the 2021 Wood County Efficiency Profile from the West Virginia Department of Education.
