NEW Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center Opening Monday January 17, 2022

PARKERSBURG - On Monday, January 17th Wood County Schools, in partnership with Coplin Health Systems, will be opening a new primary care school-based medical facility for students, staff and community.

The Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center in the Mary Lou Hague Sports and Arts Complex on the Parkersburg High School campus, located at 2101 Dudley Avenue.  The new school-based health center (SBHC) will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30am- 4:00pm and will provide primary care, acute care and lab services.

Coplin Health Systems (CHS) accepts most health insurance plans, but also offers a wide array of payment assistance options for uninsured individuals, including a sliding fee discount program.  CHS is a Federally Qualified Health Center.

How care may be accessed by WCS students:

A completed registration/ consent form will required to be eligible for services and will be sent home in the next few days with students for parents/ guardians to complete.  Forms can also be picked up at the Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center.  Students and staff can be seen for services such as well visits, sick child visits, immunizations, and sports physicals. Students and staff at PHS will be given priority for services to minimize time spent out of the classroom. All health care services are completely optional and by request only.

  • Students can see their school nurse to request services.
  • Parents/ guardians may contact the school nurse and request their child receive services when there is a concern.  A registration/ consent form is required for the student.
  • Parents/ guardians may contact the Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center directly to request their child receive services.  A registration/ consent form is required for the student.

Once the school nurse assesses the student and determines further care is necessary and a registration/ consent form is on file, she will contact the parent/ guardian for permission to send student to the school-based health center.  Then, the school nurse contacts the SBHC to coordinate a visit for the student.  The student receives a pass and their attendance is excused during the time they are in the SBHC.

If parents/ guardians and staff of WCS students have questions, they may contact Julie Bertram, WCS Health Services Coordinator at 304-420-9562 Ext. 0.

Community members are encouraged to contact Coplin Health Systems or the PHS Health and Wellness Center directly for questions regarding their care.
