Wood BOE meets Tuesday in Parkersburg

 

PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will meet Tuesday, Sept. 26, in regular session.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood County Schools Board of Education at 1210 13th Street in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online. 

The meeting will begin with multiple recognitions. Rosie Scott with Books-A-Million will present a donation of books totaling $2,370 from their community book drive. Curriculum Director Ashlee Beatty will present information on the 

Golden Ticket Summer Reading Challenge, and the board will recognize Golden Ticket program partnerships with the Spartan Foundation, The Parkersburg and Wood County Library, and Vienna Public Library. 

The board will recognize Mike Goodwin as an Outstanding Supporter for his work in multiple areas of Wood County Schools. Vienna Mayor Randy Rapp and Vienna Parks Director Steve Black also will be recognized as Outstanding Supporters for their work with Jackson Middle School. 

Melissa Smith and Karen Brady will each be recognized as a Wood County Schools Above & Beyond Caring employees. 

Parkersburg High School teacher Jim Simmons and the Blennerhassett Elementary School custodial staff will be recognized as Wood County Schools Heroes for their recent efforts. 

The board will receive a presentation on the annual Drug Prevention Survey results and a request for an additional English Learner teacher position. 

In addition to multiple contracts and financial items, the board will vote on several personnel items including two employee suspensions and an employee paid leave.
