Wood BOE meets Wednesday
PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will hold a special meeting Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, to discuss the process for filling a board seat vacancy.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Jefferson Elementary Center auditorium. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
Debbie Hendershot is vacating her board of education seat to seek another elected office. Under state code, the board has 45 days to select an interim member to fill the vacancy.
The board will meet in special session Wednesday to accept Hendershot’s resignation and to discuss the process for selecting an interim board member.
Wood County Schools has consulted with Joe Gonzales, Wood County Clerk and chief election official for Wood County. Gonzales said the unexpired term will be up for election on the November ballot. According to the County Clerk’s office, the deadline for write-in candidates is March 26, and the special filing period will be Aug. 5-20.
