Free meals program continues for 2021-22 school year

PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will continue to offer meals at no charge to students for the 2021-22 school year.

Wood County Board of Education announces its policy for providing free meals to all children served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

All schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as implemented under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.  There will be no need to complete meal applications for the 2021-22 school year.

Wood County Schools had been participating in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) since 2015.  The CEP was enacted as a result of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and provides universal free meal service to children in high-poverty areas. The CEP serves as an alternative to collecting, approving, and verifying household eligibility application for free- and reduced-price eligible students in high-poverty Local Education Agencies (LEAs). If at least 40 percent of a school’s students are directly certified for free meal benefits, the entire school qualifies for the option.
