Good afternoon. Earlier today, Governor Justice issued three (3) executive orders related to all county school systems including: Full Remote Learning will occur November 30 - December 2, Face coverings are required at all times, Winter sports are prohibited from practicing or playing games until January 11, Youth Sports programs are postponed until January 11th. Also, due to our high infection rate of 79.71 and our positivity rate of 5.84, I believe our county's designated color on the Saturday WVDE Map will be "Orange". If we are "Orange" on the Saturday WVDE Map, our instructional model for the week (Nov. 16-20) will be Full Remote Learning. If we would happen to be "Gold", I will send communication out Saturday evening with instructions on our instructional model for the upcoming week. Please remember, all students (last names A-Z) should be actively engaged in lessons via Microsoft Teams or another digital platform Monday through Thursday of Full Remote Learning. In the very near future, we will send out a day-by-day chart for students and parents to explain our expectations for instruction and learning over the next few weeks. Just a reminder - We still have internet Hot Spots available for students. Please call the WC Board Office to reserve a Hot Spot for internet access. Please continue to Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. Stay safe and healthy!

Good afternoon. I would like to take a second to thank all employees of Wood County Schools for doing an outstanding job in our first day of full remote learning. Sure, we had a couple hiccups, but we are currently working to make necessary changes for tomorrow. I also want to thank all parents and students for your patience and perseverance as we work together through a new learning format. As I mentioned last night, communication will be the key for success in remote learning. If you experience problems, please reach out and contact your child's teacher or school so issues can be properly addressed. Tomorrow, there will be one change in our meal service program. After re-examining today's meal service delivery with our buses, we are going to use the evening bus stop times rather than the morning pickup times. Students will need to be at their bus stops three and one half (3 1/2) hours before their scheduled drop-off times. For example, if a student is dropped off at 4:00 p.m. at the bus stop after school, the student should be at their stop at 12:30 p.m. to receive a meal. For more information regarding meal service or other updates, please visit www.woodcountyschoolswv.com . As always, Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands.

Wood County Schools has created an online dashboard to report confirmed cases of COVID-19. The page can be accessed at www.woodcountyschoolswv.com by clicking on Menu: COVID 19 Information: COVID Dashboard, or through the direct link https://tinyurl.com/y2zf9q4u. The page features a spreadsheet of Wood County schools and facilities. The number of positive COVID-19 cases will be listed next to each school as well as the date(s) the cases were confirmed. The list will be reset as soon as possible when new cases appear. The response by Wood County Schools and the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department to COVID cases will not change. Families will be notified of positive cases in their child's schools, as will any individuals who may be asked to quarantine. However, the district will not be posting individual press releases for each case, but instead encourages everyone to check the page regularly.

Good evening. As you are aware, Wood County is experiencing a tremendous spike of positive COVID-19 cases throughout our community with a 44.47 infection rate and a 5.45 positivity rate. However, our instructional model for next week will be based on the WVDE’s Saturday Map located at https://wvde.us/school-reentry-metrics-protocols/. If Wood County is Orange or Red on the Saturday map at 5:00 p.m., Wood County Schools will activate “remote learning” Monday thru Friday next week in all schools per WV Dept. of Ed. guidelines. If Wood County is NOT Orange or Red on the Saturday map, Elementary Schools will begin full re-entry on Nov. 9 as previously determined, while Middle Schools and High Schools will remain in the blended learning format. However, due to positive cases in certain Elementary Schools, remote learning could be instituted in those schools if more cases arise over the weekend. I understand this is a very difficult time for everyone, which is very hard to understand and manage. But, on a positive note – we have the best public education employees in WV that will continue to work hard each day for your children. The next communication from me will be late Saturday evening informing all parents and employees of our steps moving forward. Also, please continue to visit our website for up-to-date information under the COVID-19 Information and Re-entry Information tab as well as our new parent newsletter at https://5il.co/mtkm . Please be safe – Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands.
