Wood County Schools Special Education Office will be destroying special education records of all former special education students with a graduation date prior to and including 2019. Files prior to 2018 have already been shredded. The Kinship Connection event, hosted by the Children's Home Society of West Virginia, offers a valuable opportunity for kinship and grandfamilies to connect with service providers and each other. Held on May 21st, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 2500 36th St., Parkersburg, WV, the event includes:

A FREE reading and math clinic for Wood County Schools students completing kindergarten - grade 2. Students will receive small group reading and/or math instruction specially designed to boost their reading and math success!

Emerson Elementary School
Students will attend two, one-hour sessions per week with a reading specialist or math tutor. Sessions will take place Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday. At the time of registration, parents/guardians may request Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday sessions. They may also indicate time preference (8:30-9:30am, 9:30-10:30am, or 10:30-11:30am). Every effort will be made to accommodate scheduling requests while also ensuring your student is assigned an instructional group that is appropriate for them.

Coplin Health Systems will be offering FREE sports physicals to all school-aged children and teens from May 5th to June 13th. Walk-ins are accepted, but an appointment is encouraged. Please bring a physical form. The form can be found on the WCS website under Wellness, Health Services.

The parent report for the General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) of each test is now available within 24 hours of completing the English/language arts, math, or science tests. Visit https://www.woodcountyschoolswv.com/page/gsa-reports to access your child's report. The accompanying image shows a sample email that will arrive in your child's @stu.k12.wv.us email address. This email is sent from Cambium Assessment on behalf of Wood County Schools.
